It's telling about a society when people consider "Not being a dick" to be "misguided."

I never intentionally let a door close on someone. It's a douchebag thing to do, and if I do so unintentionally, I apologize.

I mean that I get this compulsion, when Im walking and people are around, even if they are in front of me, to open the door for them, I have literally been sat there holding open a door for a good 5 minutes because people have kept on coming

Yes, even if there's no one there. It's just a force of habit at this point.

Ya I do, just always seemed like common courtesy to me. If they are a few feet behind me I will stop and hold it open. But apparently it seems that I am the only one in the area who does though. As I always get really surprised looks when I do, and no one ever does for me.
