No, but I did stumble onto a group of LARPers in the park one day with my roomate while we walked her dog. They all stopped and looked at us like we were the strange ones and had no business being there.... it was odd.

I do not, but wouldn't mind actually giving it a shot. It seems to me that it would be fun to try out, and it is essentially just acting in general.

I'd probably do it if I were free of the social consequences. That is, if people knew I was a LARPer, they'd give me funny looks and talk in guarded tones. Maybe if someone else dragged me along. I'd probably enjoy myself quite a bit, but only if I could convince myself that none of it was my idea.

Dangerous stuff. I'd be scared to LARP with so many people re-enacting a big battle, especially given the size of some of those 'soldiers', I can see why there's so many injuries. On the other hand, the System Danmarc LARP looks so close to my real life that I don't see why I'd need to bother pretending...
What is life without a little danger from time to time?
I have plenty of danger and drama in my real life. I don't need the extra danger and drama of a LARP where people bash each other over the head. Maybe for others it's different, but I spend a fair amount of time in my life trying to minimise the amount of danger I experience on a daily basis, not increase it.

Something a bit more subtle like World Of Darkness sounds appealing though, even though I find vampires a bit hackneyed the slower pace suits.

Yeah, but when me and my friends do it, we're basically just using it as an excuse to get into actual swordfights and beat the shit out of one another.

No I don't, it isn't that the idea doesn't hold appeal to me, because the idea of holding mock midieval battles sounds awesome, it's just I live in a small town in southern Michigan, and NO ONE is that eccentric around here.

If given the opportunity , i might.
But it would have to be a hardcore one, where you actually wear armor and beat each other with sticks

I'm not going to lie, that looks fucking epic.
Aye, I've been through an SCA War. Brutal stuff, but loads of fun.

Just stay away from anything called "Fire Dragon Thunder Piss" whilst in the camps.

I did when I was, perhaps, four...

Some of it is just stupid and creepy, but the idea of acting for the pure joy of acting seems like an artistic zenith.

I don't LARP but I do P&P RPG. Here's a thing I wonder: how do you determine the outcome of a battle or an encounter? I don't think everyone has a bag of dice that they roll before each hit, and I don't think that there's any actual combat involved, right? And even if it did require combat skill, then I don't get how the outcome of spells are rendered. Could anyone enlighten me on this?
