The worst? Some dont even have guns and try and shoot the enemy. Others whine and demand constant protection. To my knowlage alyx is almost immortal, and is armed. Also she knows kung fu against zombies. Play episode 1.Souplex said:
Character wise I thought she was alright. Perfectly charming and likeable and the fact that she wasn't just a sex symbol certainly helped me to take her seriously in the (admittedly) short period of time I played Half Life 2.
That said, she still isn't my favourite female game character because she doesn't really do a whole lot of character development (in my own limited experiance, please don't kill me if I turn out to be incorrect) and she ends up being a little bit too much like the idealised girlfriend that people carry around in their heads. I really liked Alyx - I mean, what's not to like? She's intelligent, she's charming, she's got a sense of humour, she's attractive, and she can totally kick ass when the situation calls for it. Definitely one of the most well-rounded and believable female characters I've ever encountered in a video game.

work while she hangs around in the background. She always goes on about her dad who always manages to get himself in truble and of course you have to go rescue him. Why can't she rescue Eli herself? I don't care for Eli. Or better yet, why can't Eli take care of himself? Also, she doesn't fucking listen!

i really enjoyed working with alyx, i found her slightly irritating in HL2 but quickly warmed to her during Episode1 and that made Episode2 all the more powerful.
She's an awesome chick who is also fully clothed. I could not possibly love her anymore than I already do.
Plus she's a great complimentary character for Gordon. Gordon is essentially an average scientist guy who gets thrust into a crazy situation and just happens to kick ass. Alyx is an average girl who gets thrust into a crazy situation and also just so happens to kick some ass.
Their babies would be adorable, mute, and they'd play with Dog in a junkyard.

That fish ***** forces you to carry her around on your head and then decides that she's madly in love with you.

What?! Who doesn't like her? She's put the story in the game where otherwise you'd have no idea what was going on. She's pretty much the reason I think Episode 1 & 2 are some of the best games ever made. Without her you'd just be wandering around with no emotional investment in the gameworld or the task at hand.
Seriously, Half Life 2 is over rated and dull, with large portions of the game simply leaving you going through the motions with little to no story in between. Alyx Vance pretty much single handedly fixes that in Episode 1 & 2.

Sure, I like the fact that they portrayed her as a decent human being without ridiculous proportions or that annoying grating 'kick ass gurl' personality that seems to pervade most female gaming characters, and as such the ending of Episode 2 I found surprisingly touching.
Not my favorite, but she's a good character. Wish there were more like her. You know, female characters in games that seem genuinely 'realistic', as opposed to the gratuitous stereotypes you generally get which look like obscene doodles torn from the pages of a teenage boys text-book.
