I'm using the term debating very loosely.

This can be anything from a spirited debate on something completely irrelevant such as whether or not Star Wars is better than Harry Potter, something more serious such as the war in Iraq, or the matching of wits and insults that occur via the internet.

I personally love any kind of debate, though I get a special rush from matching my wits against the less desirables of the internet. There something about pointing out a delinquent's weaknesses that makes me feel all tingly, (a bit of a joking tone is needed there) but I'm curious about other people's debating habits.

I like "Mass Debating". Does that Count?

EDIT: OK serious answer, debates are nice, it's better than forcing opinions onto others as you listen to everyones views. They can also be on very touchy subjects making them interesting. Political debates however are a real turn off for me.

I enjoy debating with people very much so, this has led to conflict with some people, but I don't go into them with malicious intent, just the playful desire to disagree and converse.

FUCKING NINJA'D!

Debating is only good if everyone involved knows about the topic in question. Otherwise it's just like being in school.

It's a waste of time. The level of discourse never elevates itself to a point where it's sufficiently interesting.

(note bias caused by living in United States. Americans are retards. Rest of the world? I am inferior to you by virtue of my citizenship, and your respect matters more than that of my countrymen.)

Some might call me a "Master Debater".

OT: Only if it's something I actually care about. Meaning...not all that much. I will debate my own opinions as long as I can though, if I feel strongly about them.

I love a good argument! A relationship with one of my friends is pretty much entirely based on them. I'm just terrible at it, though. Also, most of them seem to keep coming down to ill-defined terms, like "warp" when we were talking about the universe and whatever.

Sometimes. I'm very confrontational and aggressive when it comes to my viewpoints, and it means it can be tiring to defend them openly on a regular basis - but I just don't have it in me to ignore things or let them slide either. I much prefer debates about stupid stuff like whether Skaffen-Amtiskaw could beat up Flere Imsaho.

Depends on who with really. I have a rule that I don't debate or argue with someone until I'm confident in what I know, and have some facts to back it up, stuff like that. Unfortunately a lot of people I talk to don't hold the same values and are quite happy to just spout the same old word of mouth bollocks and rehashed stale ideas. When that happens it really pisses me off.

But, if people actually know what they're talking about then I enjoy a good debate, as long as it doesn't get too heated or personal. When that happens, when it stops being civil, I just stop because there's no point.

It's particularly difficult when trying to debate football strategies and stuff.

Whimsical debates, yes.
As anyone who knows me will attest, anything political based makes me uncomfortable and anything religion based pisses me off.
Most people tend to think shouting your opinions as fact overrides logic or that logic should dissuade your beliefs.

I don't like it much, but me and my friends will have a "debate" every once and a while.

Yes, I enjoy debating, especially with friends because they don't get as angry when I prove them wrong or turn to violence.

No because it always ends with someone yelling "Oh YOUR STUPID DUR DUR I'M RIGHT YOUR WRONG!" Every time I say something Republican here, some one always uses that phrase.

I only like debating when I realize I have a good chance of winning, or at least holding my own. I much rather prefer watching debates play out.

Er, have you even been to the Religion and Politics section?

If you get shot down there, that usually means your argument is flawed.

I like watching/reading debates (on any matter really) and I don't mind debating my point of view either. I not very good at it though but I try to stay polite at least.
