Simple subject do you like matchmaking? and why?

I don't like matchmaking because i can't check on things like connection level and what the maps are in the server.

Well, it kind of works when I'm feeling lazy, but it's far easier and quicker with a Server Browser. I don't dislike it, I just prefer a Server Browser.

I like it better than browsing servers because it's easier, but I'd like the ability to browse servers also.

I don't like it 'cause 9/10 times I don't get matched to a local game and have a ping of over 9000.
I do like it 'cause it's easy.
But I prefer dedicated server browsers.

You're probably thinking of a specific game,it always depends on what you play that uses matchmaking.

On Halo 3 I always found it reliable, as well as COD4. MW2 is a mixed bag. I have played games with dedicated like CSS, TF2, but I'm such a noob in that area, I don't know what to look for apart from EU games and my preferred mode. Took me long enough to work out what Ping was and how that affected the game so as you see I use matchmaking more.

I like matchmaking when it works. But I dont think it should replace the server browser because I dont think it will ever work 100%

Yes, its useful in Australia because it usually looks for the server with the least lag.

Yes, it certainly has it's place.

BUT

It is not an effective replacement for a server browser, it should be used as a user friendly compliment to one. Left 4 Dead/2 would be a good example, matchmaking in that works fine, but I still stab 'openserverbrowser' into the console as I want to be more specific on where I play than an automated system can manage. It would be better if they just left in the Steam browser as standard.

In games like MW2... No I don't like matchmaking. I prefer to be able to join servers whenever possible for when I find a server that I enjoy more than others. That and I was in a clan in CoD4 and we were all hyped that we would all be able to play MW2 together until they announced the matchmaking service.

In games like Starcraft 2 however... I feel it is necessary to have a matchmaking service. I had a rough time playing SC and Brood War online because when I was still learning the game, there was a moment in time where I was unable to play, so to make up for it I decided to watch some professional Japanese replays. Now whenever I sign on, if the person doesn't speak fluent English, I run like hell!

Yeah I know that the chances of bumping into a professional are slim in SC and BW but you do often find yourself playing against some one who is way out of your skill level. I feel Blizzard did a good job in trying to make sure this doesn't happen in the sequel.

If MW2 had the feature of only being placed in with people of your skill level, or even just in-game level. That would be great, but they built it for the purpose of making it 'easier' for people to get in-game while at the same time making it harder for EVERYONE else.

I do feel that this feature for MW2 is good for those not really caring that much and would like to just hop into a random pub, but those who liked to partake in the clan and league/ladder scene got screwed.

As an Xbox gamer, you just get use to it and while it has its moments, it can be a major pain. But for the most part, it does its job successfully.

The simple, find game to play is quite possibly the most baffling addition to games. Where the hell is my customization. In Mw2, all I want to do when playing multiplayer, is use a silent class and play TDM on Derail. Can I do this? No, of course not. I have to just play general TDM and hope Derail comes up. THIS IS NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE. I get it, a lot of players don't care about that stuff, but a hell of a lot do, its madness. Biggest fps release ever so far and they only include a barebones multiplayer matchmaking, fuck that shit.

What game is this about? The ones I play online are almost all RTS and matchmaking stops me getting matched with someone either so much better than me I never have a chance or someone who has no chance against me, neither are really fun.

On consoles, I don't really care.

On PC, I want to be able to find a good community with good mods that I like (if I want mods that is). It's good to be able to play on a server when you see the same people playing on a regular basis.

It's alright in some games (DoW II's last stand springs to mind), But I still prefer a server browser for most games.

If I'm in a rush, and if it's good matchmaking. Otherwise the manual aproach is better.

I prefer Nestle Matchmakers
