RTS games were long my favorite genre, and this has only changed insofar as the last few years haven't seen many good RTS games anymore. But I'm a huge fan, I played Dune II way back on our school computers, and since then have tried them all out, from Warcraft 3 to Dawn of War and... well, lots in between. But recently, RTS games have been being replaced by RTT, which is kind of disappointing.

I love Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. My late older brother turned me onto the game way back when it first came out and I still love playing it. I just the AI was a little more intelligent. -_-

There's nothing more thrilling than watching your Kirov Airships approach an enemy base or sending 10 prism tanks to eradicate the enemy! >:-D
Kirovs are so strong me and my friend decided not to use them while playing multiplayer. I must agree though. Red Alert 2 is one of those golden rts games.

OP I don't like all rts games. Red Alert 2 and Majesty 2 are pretty good, but there are some I don't like too. I guess my main issue with them is that I concentrate on one thing and neglect much of the others too much to be very skilled at them.

I used to love RTS games. But I've yet to find one that really holds my interest now... :/ Any suggestions on modern RTS's? Exclude starcraft please.

well i mostly love the "base building" aspect of the RTS designing and contructing an indomitable fortress and then weather wave after wave of enemy units, build up my steamroller force slowly but surely and then crack a hole in my enemies defences and roll into his base and level it in 2 or 3 salvoes of fire :D

I'm more into RPGs now than RTS games, but for a long time they were my mainstay, and make up 80% of the retail games I own. I have Warcraft II and III, Command and Conquer 3, all the Total War games except Empire, all the Dawn of War games except Retribution, Age of Empires II and III, Rise of Legends, and Supreme Commander 1 and 2. Oh, and Starcraft, but I immensely dislike it and never play it.

I still play play Shogun 2 Total War and Dawn of War II quite regularly, though. It's a shame there haven't been many interesting RTS games coming out recently. There's still so much to be done with the genre.

I prefer turn based strategy games, but there are some rts's that I like (Age of Empires/Mythology Starcraft, etc).

A lot of my friends are hardcore starcraft players.I Liked the original command and conquer but the style of gameplay was not my thing.
what with the poll... it like good/evil morality systems in games; there is no grey. i am indifferent towards rts's and have played very few in my life. i can't judge rts games as a whole if played only 2 of them in my life. i don'y have any strong opions about the ones i played

i can't definitely say yes or no.

My bro plays Star Wars: Empire at War and loves it, but I prefer turn based strategy games like Fire Emblem.

Dawn of War and its expansions (Not 2, oh dear god not 2. I don't like it at all) is one of my favorite games. And I played Starcraft religiously when I was 8-10.

Yes I'd say I like them a fair bit.

Nope, can't stand 'em. I like competitive gaming, and absolutely love the fighting genre, but I loathe RTS games.

Starcraft was one of the first games i ever owned, (and these days ps2 broken, so computers are my primary game station..)

So RTS's most of the time:
Great Warcraft 3 fan, Rise of Nations, Age of Empires 2, oh and DoW (upto burning crusade)

(does spellforce: the order of Dawn count as an RTS.. or RPG?? hmmmmmmm...)

eh i played age of empire games and empire earth to hell and back when i was younger, loved em to death, but i absolutely hate the competitiveness/vibe i get from alot of pro-rts players so i tend to avoid them quite a bit (not saying all rts players are, just alot i know irl and some that are very extremist on interwebz)

personally i prefer Turn based 100x more, but i'll flick on a rts every once in a while if i'm bored.

My friend copied his version of the age of empires game and gave it to me.

Only RTS I have ever played, but my favorite RTS ever.

Yes but they are slightly ruined by sucking at them and with a lot of RTS's playing on easy means the game plays out in the same way every time; build up then steamroll.
