Only time I tended to listen to music when gaming was when I was playing WoW as I got bored of the ingame music.

I usually prefer not to, as with most games the music fits at least reasonably well with the game, unlike most of my music :p

I do it mainly when I'm sick of the games' music or feel like the music isn't very good.

Rarely, unless it's something like Gta or spider man where I like to just mess around in the city. I tend to concentrate on music too, which can be distracting, and often when I don't I feel like I'm missing out. I usually listen to music on journeys, house work or just staring at a wall so I can fully tune myself in.

I have my own music if I play MMOs or RTS games, where I don't need to be listening for people trying to sneak up on me.

Actually I play my own music for horror games as well. This one in particular.

Try Dead Space with this on. You'll never stop laughing.

Only used to in the original DotA, fittingly enough almost always playing scourge and listening to Disturbed. Just felt right for some reason :D

It depends on the game-Tony Hawks 2 had a great soundtrack but eventually it just grated hearing the same thing over and over-on with the Sabbath.
But for truly epic soundtracks or stories (ME, Gears of War etc) It's best to let the audio guys work shine.

Yes...the game's music. Now if it sucks...say, playing UNO on xbox arcade, I play my own music.

I only listen to music when I am playing a game like Just Cause 2, where the story is horrible and doesnt matter anyway, so I can generally dick around without caring about in-game sound.

Sometimes the game soundtrack is too good and outright fitting to play anything else, sometimes it would even ruin the whole atmosphere (like in BioShock for example). But if I'm playing a different kind of game, something more casual like TF2 for example, something with fun rather than atmosphere to it, I sometimes start the music player in the background or visit a YouTube playlist via ingame xfire.

Depends on the mood really. Rock for PvP and easy listening for grinding. Single player games I listen to ingame music and speech mainly.

You Sir, have brightened up my morning. Thanks!

OT: Some games yes, some games no. I tend to get bored of in-game music really quickly.

Same here, I always have something running in the background while I play EVE Online or occasionally tinker with Simcity 4. Not because the ingame music is bad, but both are slow and with quiet ambient noise, sometimes you need to liven it up a little :p

I never run any music in horror games though, what's the point of surprise buttsechs when you end up laughing your ass off :)

I do mostly while playing multiplayer games. Logic would suggest it's a good idea to listen to my teammates but usually they're either screaming into the mic (thank you bungie for attempting to stop this in upcoming halo game), barking orders at me like some four star general, or just being rude. So I listen to music. :p

No i don't listen to music while playing games, i like to be immersed and i never really have the urge to do so, though i once listened to knights of cydonia while playing red dead redemption.

Listen to the game music. Even then, only if it's part of immersion. But it can get a bit repetitive.

Games like L4D need your ears sharp, so it breaks immersion there. Another game that still feels right without music is ME.

I can't really imagine playing a slow paced C&C game without some really cool music, though.

Questing or grinding in MMOs tends not to require as much focus as, say, Call of Duty or Starcraft 2 so that's when I tend to put on some tunes.

I say tunes, it's usually some form of death metal.
