I've noticed a trend recently. People will make a post with personal information and experiences and then others will point out flaws based on the lack of simple information, such as age and country of residence. Isn't this information supposed to be easily accessible in someone's profile? I understand that people may not be willing to give that much information in their profile, but do you even bother to look?

Er... I look at peoples profiles sometimes, but normally it's if I want to see what people I like are talking about.

Also I like finding out where people live and how old they are, but thats just because I'm nosy.

Typically I look at people's profiles to verify a hunch I've formed from something they've said - generally, that they're way the hell younger than me. I'm usually right (or they don't list their age, in which case I just go on assuming I'm right).

Based on the text of the OP I would say yes. I will look if I feel a need to - eg. to try and ascertain where someone lives if quoting prices/stores.
It's rare I bother visiting profiles without already having a question in my head.

Invasion of privacy? That's silly, they could always just not put any info there.
I usually do if I've quoted or talked to the poster enough to want to know a little about them.

once or twice, but it kinda seems pointless to know what you can find out from someones profile.

If they put personal info in their profiles, they obviously don't have a problem with people looking at it. Therefore, I don't have a problem with looking at it. Hell, I have my city of residence in my personal info.

So, yes.

I post lurk.

Which basically means, when I'm bored, I pick a random user and search through their old posts. Just for fun. So sure, I do look at people's profiles now and again.

I do. A lot. I have viewed the profiles of at least seven of the people who have posted in this thread (At the time of me writing this, up to post 14 by wfpdk), before I even entered this thread.
Yeah, I can't help it. Knowledge is power.
False knowledge is power over your adversaries.
Edit: By the time I posted, that increased to at least 10 users that I've viewed the profiles of.
*Evil laughter*

Quite often - 90% of the times to see their nationality/country of residence... not even sure why do i need to know that.

I don't want to sound condescending - but you really have no life, now do you.

Pretty much always, if I'm having a discussion with someone. Or just generally, I don't see any problem with it. I retain info well, so it helps me get to know who's who around here.
Pretty much the same. Almost everyone I have a discussion/argument with I like to check up to see what kind of person they are and where they're from, since it can tell a lot about why they say what they say. Or just because they're famous (kinda like you xD) and it's funny to see what they have in their profile. =P

Yeah I do sometimes. When someone makes an interesting post I check who they are. And I check nationality often enough.

You know when people say "I don't want to sound racist but..." That's kind of how you sounded just then.

But yeah, you're pretty much more or less on the ball with that.
