In this past generation something weird has happened that not many people really pay notice to, and its something I find to be very odd. Ever since the beginning of the 7th generation (PS3/360/Wii) there has been an almost complete lack of cheat codes. I don't know if it was just me, but on the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox there where actually quite a bit of games with cheat codes and many of them where actually quite fun (who's favorite vehicle in Rogue Leader WASN'T the Buick?) and they could offer quite a bit to the game.
Now it seems like the only games with any significant amount of games with cheats are GTA and Saints Row (which is essentially GTA high on laughing gas). Why is that? And more importantly, is it better or worse? I mean I certainly miss some of those cheats, but is that actually because the cheats offered something great or its just nostalgia and all cheats did was keep fun content behind an arbitrary wall?
So, Escapists, what do you think?
Added note: The people who are for cheat codes have been pretty explanatory on why they want cheat codes, but for the people who are against it (which apparently there are a few) it would be great on you to elaborate. From what I see they don't harm the people who don't want to use them (they are optional, after all), so I'm just curious to what your reasoning is.
