Currently 25 and no, I don't miss either school or university.

My strongest memories of school are of being a miserable teenager. And I did an engineering degree at university, which meant maximum stress and minimum fun.

These days, I'm living with a man I love, doing a job I love, and I have MONEY! :D

Yes and no. I miss not having to try very hard on the work, but for a lot of high school I was pretty depressed (and let's not forget that I was a dribbling moron until I was about 16). To be honest, the happiest time of my life was between the start of 2012 to September, when I left for university- despite having a load of exams, life was great. I finally had a great group of friends, I had a lot of free time and I was vaguely on top of all my work.

It's not like I was one of the popular kids, it's just that my friends and I basically had minimum involvement with everyone else there, so they never really bothered us.

What I miss is being a kid basically, having your parents basically look after and not having too much to worry about leaves you without that many cares. Don't get me wrong, I would consider myself a massive failure if I hadn't gotten into university, and if I was living with my parents when I was 21 I would as well, but I do kinda miss it.

Right now, I have a deadline due tomorrow that no one on my course was made aware of until yesterday, I am in the middle of an argument via facebook with my ex-girlfriend, I am 180 miles away from my closest friends, I am dreading the prospect that we will probably end up drifting apart, the milk in the fridge has gone off, there's a small blue patch on the bread and I'm not sure I'll be able to afford to feed myself until the next student loan payment comes through.

Shit's pretty stressful, and I don't even have to work. Adulthood could fucking suck.

I'm a couple of years over 30 and no, I don't miss high school. I do sit back occasionally and think "yeah, life was so much easier back then - no responsibilities and oodles of holidays", but I don't miss it per se.

I had some good years at uni too where I had a lot of fun and met some great people but again, I wouldn't say I miss that time looking back on it now.

I'm still in college doing game design, and I love it. It's been the best two years of my life, I'm going to miss it so much when it's over. As for high school, fuck no. I hated every fucking minute of it.

Never had the chance to go to college, (needed money, didn't have it!)

Irony is I now work for a university!

Yes. I was pretty damn good in academics, so i loved being in school.
It is also nice to be so blissfully ignorant. But in that aspect maybe I miss being a kid.

As someone who just realised they're halfway through university and have been having the time of their life, this is something I've given a lot of thought to.

Right now I feel like I'm going to miss college a lot when I'm done. I've made great friends, I broke out of my shell, went to every party I could, got involved with socs and generally had a great time. I'm no longer the shy quiet guy I was even just a year ago...

I had a pretty big wall of text written out here explaining myself but... I don't know. The way I look at it, I'm 20 now, I have a good 60 years ahead of me if I'm lucky. It's my responsibility to make sure I don't miss college when I'm done. No matter how hard it is or how naive I sound for believing I can make something of my life... It's up to me to have a life where I'm looking forward to whats ahead rather than missing what I've left behind.

So I guess I do miss secondary school, and I'm probably going to miss college but I'm going to make every effort I can not to.

Phew, haven't posted on the Escapist in years, nice to see there's still some interesting discussion 'round these parts.

I'm still in highschool, but only for a few more months. I might miss it a bit in retrospect, but for the most part, no. Its rather awful most of the time.

In fact I have to leave for school in a few minutes, but I'm too busy posting on the Escapist. D:

God no. I was so glad when I finished high school. There was a lot of people that I knew I'd never have to see again, and that was great.

no, not at all, never. i was nullied in high school and i dropped out of college. nothing good came of those years...

but

seriously, sometimes i wish i could be 18 and in college again, but today. back then we had almost no internet (remember that back in high school, it was the early 90's and college the end of the 90's, and a lot have changed since then, in both technology and way of thinking of people.

Don't worry my friend I am with you on this one, I had a great time back in high school, even if it was just me and my three good friends. It has been one of the best times of my life, so far.

Still in university, and I enjoy it. I don't really miss high school, except for the occasional bout of nostalgia. But in general? Hell nay.

Being a teenager was so awkward and confusing, although life was very simple at the same time (oh, how I wistfully mourn the loss of a world of all blacks and all whites, as opposed to only greys!). I'm sorry, I've got something in my eye, I'm afraid.

-edit-

To clarify, high school was (on the whole) pretty enjoyable. I just don't feel the need to revisit it because my life is currently far more awesome.

Reading most of the replies in this topic explains a lot about this forum as a whole.

I miss it loads; life was simple, if I fucked around there were no real repercussions and my biggest concern was ensuring I had my homework done.

Yes to both, I enjoy learning and got to do plenty of extremely enjoyable things while in both. But I'm also weird enough that while I was student in collage I was also helping teach it at the same time because I pick things up fast and the teachers in general have been quite happy to have a competent aid coming from their own student base. They did sometimes get a little lazy though having me around.

I miss highschool quite a lot.I hated much of it at the time, but looking back on it I had a lot of fun. I mean back then I did loads of fun things that I had to stop when I left. It was certainly vastly more enjoyable than Uni proved to be.

I am not over 30, but I do miss university quite a bit as it gave me my first taste of independence, and from university I have made a lot of good friends that I still keep in touch with. What I miss most is that because we all live in different parts of the country (or have emigrated to different countries) its no longer possible to go and see them as a spur of the moment thing, it has to be planned weeks/months in advance.

As for high school, I don't miss it at all.

Fuck no to both. I'm prolly not the best judge of all this though... I dropped out of HS and got kicked out of three colleges, haha.

High school was absolutely miserable. Not much else to say on that. I pretty much knew that it wasn't for me by 7th grade.

College was pleasant and interesting in some respects, soul-crushing in others. I had some amazing profs and met some really cool people, and it was pretty nice when I just took whatever classes seemed interesting. But so much of the experience just left me depressed. When I was in the English program, the fact that I could write bullshit papers that said nothing of value and still get As from profs I legitimately knew were brilliant made me hate myself.

I switched from that first to comp sci, then physics, then math, but I could never will myself to make it through the first few semesters of mind-numbing 100-300 level classes. The way that most of these classes were taught was just awful. In all of them there were ~20% of us who "got" it, either through good intuition, self-study, or prior/outside knowledge. The classes were kept at a snail's pace and profs glossed over many important but complex ideas for the other ~80%, most of whom still didn't "get" it despite this. But the real problem was how these students were given information with zero context and told to memorize concepts without being taught the overarching ideas. I tried to make it through these classes while helping tutor some of the other students (very often all I needed to do to get them to understand the material completely was explain the logic behind what we were supposed to be memorizing.) But every time it just got to be too overwhelming sitting through classes that were far too slow and superficial to be bearable while knowing the majority of students would do poorly because the profs didn't understand they were being too superficial for everyone.

I could go one and on with the anecdotes, but yeah. I'm not trying to seem *~*~edgy*~*~ by saying this, but I just don't function well in rigid school environments I suppose.

No. I don't regret the past, nor do I miss it. Both keep your focus away from utilizing and enjoying the present.

I loved highschool (or, the "gymnasium", age 16-19), I really did. I had my two first real relationships, lost my virginity, felt accepted and appreciated by my classmates for the first time ever, and I had a solid group of geeky friends. But I was also severely depressed for the most part of my first year, my family at home was wrecked, and I eternally despised the amount of useless hippie classes we were forced to take. I also have a vague memory of being constantly under-rested back then.

Now my life is very much in motion. I'm utilizing my talents, I have brilliant relationships around me, and I'm maturing at a faster rate than I ever have. Pretty soon I'm commencing my studies to become a nurse. No, I don't look back.

Considering how much I am enjoying university, I will probably miss it when I have to join the working world. Still I'm looking forward to actually using my degree.
