I tend to be more inclined to check out threads that aren't doing well, even if only out of morbid curiousity. Sometimes I can contribute, other times I back away slowly, silently departing the area.

All the time, I know how it feels when people disregard my threads and reviews (*tearfully recalls his review of 500 days of Summer*) and so when I see a guy with a nice thread but no one replying I give them a post. It's a little thing but I like to think it's the little things in life that really matter.

I just did now... so sometimes. At least when it's something original or interesting to me.

A thread topic is supposed to be structured so almost everyone can contribute at least a little to the conversation. If it isn't, then it deserves to die after three posts anyway.

I don't normally pity post. I will however go over all of the responses already made and find one I disagree with, quote the person, state my disagreement, and wait to see if they respond. If the other poster responds than we can have an argument on what was once a dead thread. If we respond to each other quickly enough it has the potential to move a thread out of the "pity" zone.

However, if the OP doesn't provide for any real discussion/I can't find a post to disagree with I just let it go and move on.

my first post sucked. i wished someone would pity post it.

then i did a post about obama, and artfully called him OUR new president, instead of AMERICA'S new president.

i got lots of posts on that one. i felt a little better.

I only post in a topic if it interests me. I personally don't see a reason to post in something which I wouldn't have an interest in, or just because it isn't doing well.

I don't pity post - I post to increase my post count, even on the most rubbish threads.

I'm striving for Max-esque fame.
Max fame would be something to aspire too, but what about "neonbob"?
He has 17,367 posts, whereas The Reaper has 13,759 (correct at time of post)

OT: I don't pity post often, but when I do, it's because I have something to contribute.
I hope I don't inspire that kind of following, honestly.
Nobody should want to be like me.
It's a very boring thing.

And I only do so if I can actually contribute to the thread in a meaningful way, and the topic is a good one that could possibly inspire others.
Or one of my buddies makes a request for me to look at it.

Don't do that. You could have twice the post count of Max or Neonbob, but that won't make people respect you any more. Put some thought behind what you post, and forget about that number.

Oh, sorry. I'm not a stalker or anything, don't worry.
I just wondered one day who had more posts; you or Max, so I checked, and my useless searching finally had a tiny use.

Pity posting is a little hard when you hover above the 'latest posts' and 'hot threads' lists.
Sorry for those who have terrible discussion ideas.

Trust me when I say, fame is more annoying than anything else.
In one corner, you have the people who hate you for it.
In the other corner, you have the creepy people who worship you for it.
I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME!!!!!
My life no longer has purpose.
