First off, yes, I am well aware of the regrettable degree of irony and/or hypocrisy inherent in this post. Just thought I'd save you (yes, you, you know who you are) the effort of pointing that out.

So... after seeing yet another "best weapon ever" thread accompanied by a handful of "last enemy you killed" threads, I have a question for you folks:

Who the hell makes them all?

Is it the newcomers? Is it the teenagers? Is it you? Who?

Yes, I know it's harmless. Yes, I know I can just ignore them. Yes, I know there is a badge for 100 replies or 1000 views or something. But none of those facts makes it any less pathetic.

Are we really so imaginatively bankrupt that we cannot come up with new or interesting subjects for discussion? We're just going to mill about asking each other which games made us cry or which game is our personal 2010 GOTY?

Really, Escapist?

Really?

I think it's the new people with double digit post counts that do this. True, I don't have very many posts myself, but I rarely post new topics to discuss.

No. If no one responded to the first post, there's no reason to drag the topic on if it's stillborn.

I try not to, but if I do, it's purely by accident. I don't post many threads anyway.

If you're aware that you're doing something that very well may be contributing to the problem, stop doing what you are doing that is contributing to the problem. Just because you say that you're aware that you're doing it doesn't magically make it better.

That said, I've not seen this thread before. Good job, except this is a horrible thread anyway. We'll put that behind us, though.

I certainly don't contribute to that cancer. I usually yell at those who do, but alas I cannot do that in every single one.

Edit:

The fuck are you talking about? Most people don't hit that post count for years in other sites. The standard of what is or isn't large on this site is horribly fucked.

But, but, but, since the last best weapons thread I might have a new favourite weapon, and since the last "The Last Enemy You Killed..." thread I might have killed a new one! Then what do I do huh? I can't just lie to The Escapist, I have to keep my posts as up to date as possible dammit!

After 2 or three years of the forums being running, mostly anything you post is likely to have been done before.

As long as they don't appear too soon after each other, it doesn't bother me too much.

Actually, I'm pretty sure this thread hasn't been done. Before hitting the post button I did a search to cover my arse. (Considering the nature of the thread, how could I not?) But I thought I'd add in a quick disclaimer just in case.

I think it's become rather impossible not to create repeat threads here now. Far too many topics to be able to read through.

I'll admit I've posted threads similar to others, but only if that thread died about 6+ months ago.
Should be some fresh meat for more opinions by then.

a) Blimey, you're a friendly one.
b) I did. If nothing else, I would have had to read it all in order to pluck out the section I quoted.
c) Good bye.

a) Kindness is earned.
b) And you brought the point up anyway? Shame on you.
b[sup]2[/sup]) No, it's quite possible to press the "quote" button, then delete everything that isn't relevant to what you're responding to.
c) Ciao.

Not since my olden days on the Random Insanity board on GameFAQs about 5-6 years ago.

I tend to ignore "fad" threads. Post in 1 or 2, ignore the rest.

I have once, but I had used the search bar, I really had. Maybe the search bar was just not being nice and wanted people to be annoyed by me. ALthough only one person mentioned it had been done before so I assume it was a simple mistake.

But I don't see why anyone would intentionally do it for a recent thread.

I never post new threads that I could necro.

On the other hand, I am seriously considering necroing one of my own threads from a few weeks ago, as I put a lot of effort into it and would appreciate some discussion.

Is there a rule against this?

Hehehe.

OT: No, I try not to.

I also generally try to stay out of the ones which are basically
"The last [blank] you [blanked] is now [blank]"
or anything of the like.

Well you can't blame me, I've never made a thread before.

But I am getting a bit tired of the 'What film/game/song did you last watch/play/listen to' and the already mentioned 'The last [blank] blah blah blah' threads.
