Poll: Do you power through games you don't enjoy?

Back when I played on my 360, I would try my hardest to complete every game that I owned, regardless of whether or not I thought it was any good. However, now that I play solely on my PC, and that I have over 300 games on Steam alone, I don't think that I have completed 100 of them; hell, I have 78 games installed on Steam right now, and I have completed only 37 of them (admittedly, some you cant really "complete". ie War Thunder). According to the Steam Database, I haven't even played 100 of my Steam games, let alone completed them. So no, not anymore. If a game doesn't hold my attention for more than a few hours, I will drop it.

It kind of depends on how badly the game is annoying me. For example, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within pissed me off so completely during the tutorial, that I turned the game off as soon as they introduced the female protagonist in her plate mail thong.

Games like the new Tomb Raider however, I did complete, even though it was really annoying me because of the writing. The gameplay was pretty good, but the story/characters were so terrible that I was yelling at the monitor when they did really stupid/cliche stuff. Oddly enough though I did finish it. I also finished the new Thief game, despite how many annoying things about the game mechanics I dealt with.

So I guess it kind of depends on my mood.

No, I stop playing. I'm not wasting my time with a game that's just going to piss me off.

At the most I'll youtube the last boss fight and watch the ending. And that's it.

I typically try to finish any game I start, however I can really easily jump ship from a game I am somewhat enjoying to something else I have been anticipating once it gets released. That other game may then sit on the shelf for months or even longer before getting played again (if it gets played again at all). I've been trying to do better with this, since I have such a backlog of unfinished games, but this does mean that now if I am not enjoying a game, I don't bother trying to finish it and move on to something I do enjoy.

For instance, I continually get bored with Bioshock any time I try to play it. I've started the game three times now, but always stop playing after a number of hours. It just won't grab me for some reason. Similarly, the games Chronovolt and Rayman Origins for the Vita, which were PS+ freebies, bored me within minutes, so I put them away. I tried to give Lone Survivor a chance, playing through a few hours total, but it just didn't do anything for me either. Maybe if I ever get through my backlog I will go back and try these yet again, but with various upcoming games, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

There has been two games that I couldn't finish.
Megaman 6 i think? That was only because I lost it when I was a kid.

Dark Void I couldn't finish because it was just so... bland? I mean it had a jetpack and all that was actually jetpack, but it just didn't grab me.
It made so bored i wanted to go to easter mass, which is the longest thing in the world if you're not religious.

Some of them. Like the Thief reboot. Finished it in a couple of days. But usually no. Heck, I have a hard time finishing games I ENJOY. Dunno why =(

Some games will try my patience so thoroughly that I take it as a challenge to finish them. This is common of some older classics I've kept but haven't played much of. I remember tackling Syphon Filter 1 on my PS1 over the summer. I had heard fans of the series compare the game to Metal Gear Solid in terms of espionage action, but save for one level, there were never any penalties for being caught, and the "stealth" they were referring to is where you round a corner and headshot a guard before they can damage you. No clever gadgets, no danger of setting off alarms, nothing I would associate with being stealthy. The bland design and storytelling turned me off until I read some more terrible reviews and a particular interview with one of the games developers, talking about how rushed and bizarre the project was in development. Claiming that the original story dealt with time travel rather than bio-chemical weapons. I was suddenly fascinated by the game and continued. When I moved on to Syphon Filter 2, it was so much improved as a game that the experiences felt worth it. In fact, I feel truly enriched as a gamer when I overcome such ordeals, and believe me. Syphon Filter 1 is very much an "ordeal" with its annoying final levels.

It's unfortunate that I don't share such enthusiasm with actual good games. Those are the ones that I put down for another day.

I abandon them most of the time with the intention to finish it later, but i rarely do, after some time passes i lose all desire to even boot it up and delete them when i'm running out of space on my hdd. I value my spare time and i refure to spend in on something that i don't enjoy.

Nope, I don't try to force my self to finish a game one at a time.
What I do when that happens is I just put it back on the shelf and play other games until the game beckons me again to play it out of sheer current boredom, something triggering my mood to play it, or I'm just out of games to play.

One of those games that sits on my shelf for an indefinite time is probably FF 13, which I got for 500Yen when people was mass returning it back to stores.

It really depends on if I consider the game at least playable. I thought 2013's Tomb Raider was... meh, to be honest, but I powered through it because it was at least functional.

There were some times when I did power through a game I considered crap, some years ago. There was the tie-in game for Monster House, which was so fucking repetitive all I can remember from it is constantly backing away from enemies and 'reloading' my squirt gun.

I enjoy discussing games, so I often power through games just to talk about them. Some are so bad that I don't finish them, and it's not hard to defend that decision on forums.

I shelf them for a time. Then I go back to them, play them for a while, remember why I stopped playing, and shelf them again. Rinse and repeat.

I mean, I had to power through any game I would LP and sometimes, if the gameplay's good enough, I could power through any game if I felt like it...

Almost every game has things I don't like. I loved Borderlands 2 like a best friend but the Doc Mercy quest just made me die and die and die until I ragequit. The fun part was coming back twenty levels later and killing him with a casual backhand swat.

Games I find no enjoyment in are chucked over my shoulder and immediately forgotten.
