When you're playing a game that has a character creator (For example MMOs like Champions Online or RPGs like Dragon Age) do you re-make characters from pre-existing franchises (like Bat Man or Gandalf), or do you make new unique characters?

Always unique characters. Even in fighting games with character creators, always make up my own.

I always like to go the unique and original route...then when i feel uncreative i go for the more comic character route.

always unique and usually hideous. makes it all the more amusing when the female love interest falls for an obnoxious, unkempt and truly ugly anti-hero.

Existing character.

Just because I rarely get interested in a game with a creator to try and follow in line with the universe and just like to dick around with it.

The fact that the games always assume you made a very attractive character kinda ruins it though. Or makes it more funny, I don't know.

Going by your definition, always unique. I don't see the appeal in creating existing characters; in fact, in my first MMO (City of Heroes), that was actually against the rules. Didn't stop people from doing it, but those people were looked upon with contempt.

Going by my definition, I do remake some of my own characters in various games. Two in particular, who I have in all of the MMOs I play, as well as several other games.

Unique, but I always make the same character(s). Josh, Kate, Chernobyl, Ross... I've got a small list of recurring characters in games I play.

I usually make my own characters, 'tho I tend to sometimes copy some character traits from pre-existing characters.

If I ever remake a character, it's a remake of a character I used at some other game.

Always unique. I may make a 'me' character, but I always like to make different style characters that stand out in their own way.

Well, I'd still say that falls under the re-make category. Even if the character has never been made visually in any medium, if it was thought up by another person, I would still count it as a re-make.

I create an individual, not only avatar, but personality for each and every character I play where a personality is not provided.

See: Poke'mon Soul Silver.
