This is a question that came to me after having made a thread called "Muffins and Cupcakes". I posted a short piece in it, that used muffins and cupcakes as part of a metaphor and asked for some constructive criticism. Instead. Most posters just started talking about muffins and cupcakes. I thought this was incredibly funny, as I realized that the title I made probably looked self-explanatory enough, and most people probably didn't read my post for that reason.

It also made me think of this question: how many of you read original posts on threads?

I tend to always read an OP if I'm going to post. I stop reading some if they're too long, but then I just leave the thread without posting.

Never read the OP. (totes just posted without reading the OP)

EDIT: I've been guilty of not reading the OP once or twice, but most of the time I at least skim it to see if what I'm posting is on topic. I've seen people post on the title and not the OP several times, though. It's even funnier when it has nothing to do with the OP. I once made a thread about Left 4 Dead 3 and dedicated a paragraph to telling people not to post about Episode 3 and one of the first posts was about how Valve needed to stop being lazy and start working on Episode 3.

Usually, unless it's an incredibly straightforward title, such as "Do you read OPs?" Don't know what that would be a metaphor for.

I always read the OP. Otherwise, how will you know what the thread's about?

HE. What HE said.
You have a female eye as an avatar; I usually refer to people on the internet as the gender of their avatar, myself.

Question should be: Do people read the threads at all?

It seems like everybody just says whatever is on their mind and offers nothing to any true discussion. I don't have anything against this, but it makes getting a conversation with somebody a bloody chore.

I read the OP, rarely I get bored in the middle in which case I don't post in the thread and leave.

Yeah, I see this as a problem with threads in general. I'm often guilty of it, but I'll usually only do it if I'm trying to be witty and don't have a real interest in the topic anyway. I'll usually try and quote someone to start a discussion though, or at least take on the ideas of the posts before mine. At least I try to.

From my experience, there are too many Yeses that what there really is, especially if there is a link to a news article. Almost nobody reads those and they just comment on the tile.

On most other boards I'm a part of, the discussions move much more slower and can go on for several days. Here, everything is so fast--threads go to the next page within a day or so, and it makes the conversations about the OP and little else.

Hence why I generally try quoting people. When I come to a thread I want a conversation damnit, otherwise I might as well be writing at a wall. The best threads I've been on more resemble Pm conversations to be honest. The review section is actually nice if you want a slower pace, those threads usually stay up for quite a while, even with little people posting. It's a shame, but it does give more room for discussion, which is good.

I always read the OP in a thread, unless it's dripping with stupidity and spelling errors enough to make my eyes bleed.

That said, I generally don't read past the first or second page of replies unless the discussion really catches my interest.

Sounds like my style.

Titles are made to draw you in.
OPs are made to explain the thread.
Replies are made to get you awesome badges! answer the OP.

The OP is the most important piece of text in a thread. Even if it is a Forum Game I read it.
I always read it regardless
