I'm just wondering whether people actually read dialogue in quests. In MMOs I find myself just skipping through the quest dialogues just so I can get it and be on my way. Most of the time the dialogue is completely uninteresting and not worth my time and even more of the time the quests are so disjointed there's no point in trying to construct an actual story from quest dialogue. In games where the plot is the prize I understand reading the dialogue, but the meaningless dribble in most MMORPGs is really really not worth my time. Am I missing out?

I normally start out in any game reading the dialogue, but it soon becomes very similar, and I find myself just skipping it, or if theres subtitles, I'll skim over them, and ignore the vocal side of it.

Yeah pretty much always.

Once in a while they have something truly interesting to say.

In MMOs almost never unless I start off and go "wait, wtf am I supposed to be doing?". In single player games sometimes (depends on the game and quest). I had almost no idea what was going on in Borderlands because I didn't read any of the quests. Even when the quest info comes in the form of dialog I often don't pay attention and then find myself lost as to what I was supposed to do which has sometimes been a problem when games give you quests through dialog and don't either let you go back and read your convos or don't give you any kind of quest objectives list (or even if they do it doesn't give you a hint as to where you're going or what not).

Quite frankly, I am consistently dissapointed by how much MMO's sacrifice/ignore world building and immersion. Too many MMO's just focus on being a time consuming challenge, rather than being a world.
