Explain yourself. You know, who, what, where, when, and how.

I for one love Role playing. In high school it was D&D and some forum stuff (and of course, video games XP) Now I'm starting to flirt with the idea of joining an MMO (although I know that'll mean I never leave my computer again...I have a very addictive personality)

Who did you play as? What's your favorite class? What's your favorite RPG? Where do/did you do it? When? And how (table top, forum, etc.)

Here are some of the characters I've made/played as:

Maya Fey (from Phoenix Wright) in a LJ RPG

Chamber (from X-Men) in an LJ RPG (pimpin' it: http://community.livejournal.com/bubblevoid/ check it out, it's really fun)

"The Diplomat" a half-ling Rogue (D&D) (An extremely dynamic an energetic rogue who goes by a different name where ever she goes. Slightly catty, very greedy, charming, and persuasive.)

Lester Flint (a pirate in the year 1722) in a forum RPG I used to run with my friends. Now the character in a series of novels I'm working on.

Felix "The Negro Gentleman" West (a pirate in the year 1722) in a forum RPG I used to run. Same deal as Lester.

a long long long time ago the only option we had was table top...from D&D, the old West End ( d-6) star wars, Aliens, paranoia ( THAT was a funny as hell one to play, considering you could die even before your done filling out the character sheet) to home brewed systems..

those were the days...

but in that time I do alot of forum based rp " as I write in a third person story like format, very very keen on creating a solid and vivid visuals with descriptions and conveying alot of details ..

chat based RP...sometimes, use to frequent the Keep quite alot back in the days

I would like to in MMO's but to be honest NEVER seem to actually find anyone who RP's, everyone is pretty much out of character.

A little bit, to myself really... and only in Oblivion. I know it shouldn't be the most immersive game I've played, but whenever I need a little escape I go to good ol' Cyrodiil, where I'm either playing as the usual hero/adventurer or where I'm a complete dick and cheat and kill everything in sight XD.

Some friends of mine are trying to get me to do D&D so I may do that too, but I'm not so sure...

Hm... does acting count?

HAH, niice. Just as long as you're not doing what this one kid I knew was doing...

He used to pretend he was a five year old boy, and his girlfriend was a freakin' priest trying to rape him... and she played along. *shivers*

Er, I really only RP in Paintchat these days. Which is kind of like creating a really slow animation I guess.

I roleplay on WC3. You see, people can make maps with a map editor.
So people make games where you guy roleplay. You can change your name, have multiple music, and alot of other stuff.

I'm kind of all over the place when it comes to role playing.

I play D&D 3.5 and tried to learn some other Pen and paper games

I also picked RP-PVP realm "ravenholdt" in WOW for a chance to role play in game. But sadly it seems most wow player's have no idea how to properly "play their stats and class".

My favorite D&D characters:
Savion Wiliams: Human paladin: Personality: stuck up, arrogant, self-righteous

Emond Suel: Elven Ranger: Personality: Quiet, leader, tactician

Johnathan "asher": Human Rogue: Personality: typical rogue, kinda hard to describe

I RP on PnP RPGs, which is a lot of fun.
But I also like to RP in RPG games.
Take, for example, Icewind Dale: I'll build the party, give a back story for each character and how they all met and/or are related and such, and then have them act in game how I think they would! So, if one character is 'married' to another, they'd be more inclined to help that one character then any other in danger. And, depending on who is talking, I'd choose the dialogue that best fits that character!
I'll do similar things in Oblivion, Baldur's Gate, NwN, Mass Effect, etc. Makes for an interesting game experience!

Well if we go that route, once after too much Sake ( always get a nice bottle from my childhood friend in Nara) I started acting like Rangiku after the spouse made a comment....all I'll say is I reached and mastered Bankai that day.

but going back on topic I really do miss the pnp days.. I have gotten the old west end SW books out and am working my 8 year old son into making a character and getting him to play over the summer

Yeah, I used to do it on NWN alot, I always used to play as dwarven fighter, mainly so I could insult elves, half-orcs, 'drow', paladins, druids, wizards, ilmaterites and those bloody annoying squeaky, chirpy, halfling rogues. All in-character, you understand. Just trying to get in touch with my inner angry dwarf.

HehI'm a bit of an RP addict, mostly RP Chat types, (forum RPs are too slow for me) I LARP sometimes when I get chance and our WARPS (Wargames and RolePlay Society)Play assasin every now and then as well as your usual tabletops i.e. Cthulu, Vampires (the masquerade was the last I played) Werewolf chronicle I think it's called, also Ars Magica, DnD (rarely) and the odd other one we bash together for variation.

I have many characters that I roleplay, I don't tend to use Pre-made characters I.e. From a series or franchise but prefer making my own. At current I have around 63 personal Characters that fit into all kinds of genres XP.

Not a fan of RPGs I think Pokemon is the only one I can tolerate with the turn based fight style, in other games I hate turn based, (unless it's like Advanced wars where well it IS a turn based game) But in console games turn based attacks are quite the annoyance..

I meant constantly playing a role of someone who isn't a dick. (I got lazy and she left.)
Studies show that 95% of all relationships end when one partner gives up on not acting like a total dick/*****. The other 5% end when both partners give up on not acting like a total dick/*****.

On topic:
Used to play CP2020 10-15 years ago. Have had a couple of abortive attempts to play that, WHFRP2 and Dark Heresy since but I'm just not interested enough anymore and netgames are a lot harder than face to face.

I don't count computer games as true RPG's, they're adventure games with power ups.

Sounds wonderful to me.

I've role played in AIM chats...Never had a LJ or anything, and didn't care enough. I play lots of table-top games, but never really played many RPGs, and nothing as involved (or as it would look to be involved) as DnD.

I've semi-role played on MMOs and other games. Simply to not offend other RPers.

You know, you join a group of people who are all doing a group RP. You don't wanna start talking about the gear that's going to drop, "kill this -mob-" move out of this, etc. I should have known when it wasn't "yo u wana run steemvallts?" and it was "Greetings, fellow adventurer! We're looking for one more brave warrior to venture into the depths of the Steamvault and slay the filthy Naga..." (or something along those lines). So instead I don't respond with "Sure." I respond with more random details, typed (maybe quite poorly) in an accent.

I have RP'd on an MMO a handful of times, but one was quite...unnerving, and made me wish I wasn't playing a female character. And the rest were either ruined by a couple persons who couldn't form a complete sentence. Which makes me feel really weird and condescending when I do it with a larger vocabulary and such.

I think it's a great thing, I just didn't really grow up with it, and I don't know how to get into it, and it seems like something that would be even more time consuming that most of the things I do now. And I know some people that play MMOs just to roleplay, and I find it odd, because there's no need for a game for it. If you just want text, you can use any instant messaging service just as easily. if you want a 3D environment, those exist too (including much more free customizable ones like Second Life (not that I personally use it) or even Furcadia)

And of course I've played dozens of RPG games on my computer and a few on consoles, and most of them allow for little to no actual roleplaying at all. Which is alright I suppose. ^^ I like them anyway, but it's a different experience entirely.
