Despite all the talk over the past years, I don't see it happening for one key reason: gameplay.
How do you force gameplay into every film plot? It's just not suitable for some films. How would you do a game of Schindler's list? Or there will be blood?

That's just my opinion, what do you think?

I don't think it will replace films as we will still have movie producers... There are ideas that we just can't put into games that fit really well in movies.

Video games are a powerful industry because they cost more. I bet more people still watch movies then play video games. I don't see a shift occuring anytime soon, and I really don't want to see it.

There are plenty of games that are played as a movie or anime series, but I don't think that movies can be replaced.

Sometimes people just wanna sit back and have the story told to me. No hard fighting, no niggling moral choices, no long wandering, just a good story. Thats why movies won't die, and in my opinion, neither should they.

I don't think so, some days you just want to have some passive entertainment

Nope. It'll reach their level (in a sense they already have) but there are just so many people out there that enjoy watching and making movies.

Plus, it's easier to get away with a film that's been done before. People would rather say "I've seen this before, but it was different" than "I've done all this before, why am I doing it again?"

No way.

Let's not forget that movies as an artform are still in their adolescence. Which means gaming's barely born. But aside from that movies and games have a totally different creative agenda. Sure, there are movies which are pure braindead visual porn, just as there are games which tell intricate stories, but the best of each canon are so because they could only work in the medium in which they're made.

Not really, the charm and ambiance of the movie theatre I think will never die. Just like the actual theatre never truly died.
I'll tell you what did die quietly a while ago... television. Seriously no one watches TV shows anymore and most people just download their favourite tv shows or even just buy them on DVD. Television is dead.

Wow, not a single yes. It would be impossible to replace films as a medium entirely, however if you mean replace as a number one entertainment medium, you could argue that gaming has already knocked film off its' perch.

alot of games focus on the story, such as KOTOR. it was a huge sucess. there is cross over, and there will probily be alot more, but i dont see films being taken over by games. i do on the other hand see them going hand in hand (sharing a throne if u will lol) in the near future of entertainment.

Do you see radio replacing books?
Do you see cinema ever replacing theater?
Do you see television ever replacing cinema?
Do you see television ever replacing radio?
Do you see the internet ever replacing newspap- scratch that last one.

Just because we have a new medium, doesn't mean it will replace an old one. If a new medium's better at something, it'll take it's place at that but mediums will find their niches and they'll focus on that. With the advent of iPods and Satellite radio, traditional radio stations focus on talk shows - especially in the AM band which was said to be made obsolete by FM radio.

Films are different then games. You don't generally complete a game in an hour and a half. Video games also might not be the right medium for a date and dinner with your girlfriend. We interact with movies differently then we interact with games, so no, I don't think we'll ever replace that medium with this one.

Movies allow you to turn off your brain and relax. Games require thought, strategy, reflexes or other skills to play. No, movies will not be replaced, as they are a different form of media entirely.
