I smoked one a few times while I was in Iraq. Overall, its something thats just too large and a pain in the ass to use for me buy one and keep it.

Got one and use it about once every week, with friends and a few beers/shots. It's quite relaxing and very good at bringing people together.

I've tried it a couple of times, but it really doesn't do anything for me. I don't smoke anything else, but all I get is a taste of whatever it's flavored with. I don't dislike it, I just don't get any enjoyment out of it. There's a good place near me though, and it's a good place to hang out with friends and chat. It has some pretty good food too.

A hooka is a type of smoking implement characterized by a central bowl linked to a long, flexible stem (you see it in movies when there's a "middle eastern" location a lot; or, if you're young, it's what the caterpillar smokes in Alice in Wonderland).

I smoked a hookah once - we were out celebrating the night before my friend's wedding, and we went into a hookah bar called the Purple Caterpillar [http://www.facebook.com/thepurplecaterpillar]. We smoked a bowl of creamsicle-flavored tobacco. It was great - really smooth, and a nice bit of a nicotine buzz. I'll have to go back there sometime...
