I don't like smoking, and I think all it's doing is killing yourself.
I personally have no qualms with anyone who smokes, although if they start blowing it in my face or smoking in an enclosed space I will tell them to stop. They have no right to kill the people around them as well.

I have been smoking ciagarettes for about two years, and I am going to have to give up soon - it's taking its toll finally.

I am interested to know how many escapists smoke - this also includes marijuana. Basically do you inhale smoke?

EDIT: I'm not looking for haters - please watch this.

No. I simply have never found it appealing.
Plus I'm already addicted to Games, the Internet, Murder, and Caffiene, so I don't need anything else to worry about.
Replace murder with nicotone and thats me.

I really don't understand how people can smoke these days, when there's no freaking way in hell that you can avoid knowing about all the negatives about it. There is nothing positive to it! The information is basically thrown at your freaking face, how can people still miss it?
It's not that people "miss" the information. They either don't care or are willing to take the risk. And it is just a risk- because not everyone who smokes dies in middle age from cancer.

If only- the job market would be a lot better.
Clearly I was wrong, people need much more information if they think death is the only thing to fear from smoking. In a society were people consider potentially dangerous or expensive surgery to improve their looks and attractiveness, it doesn't make any sense if they don't realize the effects smoking has on these things, besides, you know, causing cancer, fucking up your lungs, your health and your wallet! And for what? It's only enjoyable because it's addicting anyway, so why willingly become addicted to something so insanely bad before you can even start enjoying it?

Gah!. Sorry for ranting, it's just...I can do stupid shit sometimes, but I'd like to think that I'm at least aware of how stupid it is and stay away from it when there is more to lose than to gain. Basically I have a rational approach to things. That's why I can't understand smoking, because it's one of the most irrational decisions you can willingly and intentionally make.
Pretentious statement is pretentious.

Seriously, what's with all the smoker hate? If you don't smoke then that's fine. I would never try to convince you to smoke. I personally would like to quit because of the risks EVENTUALLY, but now is not the time. It goes quite nicely with my drinking and partying. I would simply have you know that though I smoke, I do not consider myself a smoker. There are far more interesting things that define who I am then whether or not I choose to suck on little white sticks. You may address me as Aric; I am a person and deserve not your judgmental stares.

Yep, trying to cut back a bit, but we know how that will go. I just need a reason to quit, because my own health isn't enough. I'm fairly self destructive in all my behaviour patterns.

Its a stupid decision to smoke.

I quite often will buy a pack when I am out drinking all night, they complement each other very well, and its a great way to meet girls aswell. I might go through an entire 20 pack in one night out then not smoke again for ages. I am not addicted in the slightest, yay. Even if I don't buy a pack I usually rob a few off of some mates aswell, as the urge to smoke skyrockets when I drink, well, at least when I am around people who are smoking.

As for weed, I think its great, I don't buy it, or some it frequently, buy my friends usually do and they don't mind me skimming off of the top provided I pay my share. Its a good system, and it keeps me fairly safe in terms of the law finding out etc, since I am never holding. As soon as its legal though, that would change in an instant.

Recently, after a fucking torturous 2 month long cold/chest infection/sinus problem, I have pretty much made up my mind never to smoke again, non weed cigarette's that is. So no more drink smoking for me. Or at least I will do it a lot less often.

I'm a social smoker: I smoke if others are smoking, and never more than once a week, else I feel sick. Being a lightweight has never been so beneficial. Dreams are my cigs of choice, and I'm sad to see them discontinued... at least I've still got hookah.

Just... lopping all your posts together here, because I'm going to make a sweeping generalization of what you've stated so far.

Yes: Judging happens and so forth, but that doesn't mean you have to be a dick about it.I don't enjoy the whole archetype of a "gangsta rappa" and the stereotypes that go with, but I'm not telling people off because of it, and encouraging people to go crush their bling if their parents are doing it because it annoys/offends me.

Crushing cigarettes would be a good way to get smacked yourself. Almost every smoker I've ever known has been fairly defensive about their cigs, especially if they've been at it for a long time. Crushing their cigarettes is often akin to throwing away one's antidepressant medication just because you don't like it. Stupid, senseless, and just plain invasive...

I do agree that smokers shouldn't smoke in enclosed areas, however. Always keep a window open and so forth, that way if there is people who are bothered by it, you don't have to deal with it. Understandable, really, but you shouldn't just kick them out for no reason. If that's the case, kick out anybody drinking or wearing too strong of cologne/perfume, because that, too, could be horribly offensive and might even result in health problems.

Honestly, many people who haven't smoked will use the arguments you've put forth: the "there's no benefit, it's just killing you slowly and painfully" bits. If you've smoked, you know why people do it. You get a buzz from the nicotine. This works as a synthetic dopamine (or was it seratonin... crap, always get those two confused) and makes you feel happy. Heavy smokers tend to be grouchy when they don't get their smokes because their body doesn't want to make more dopamine (seratonin?) when a cigarette is a quick, easy way to get the same effect, and even a nice smell to go with it.

Furthermore, I remain skeptical on the effects of second-hand smoke, especially when I hear BS like "Secondhand is just as deadly indoors as it is outdoors," because that's just flat out illogical. In a closed room, it will get stuck and hang in the air. In the outdoors, or even with a window open, it will dissipate and not be nearly as concentrated.

Your words remind me of the popular insurgence of the "straight edge" kids (WARNING: MORE GENERALIZATIONS) who (at least around where I am) act like stuck up pricks because they don't drink, smoke, party, have sex, et cetera... yet quite a few are more than happy to go beat the shit out of someone instead. Methinks that straight-edge is just another name for "person who doesn't want to take a risk now and then", but that's just my humble opinion.

In closing: I smoke, I enjoy it when I do, but I follow the key rule for everything in life; moderation. Besides, if I want to kill myself faster, leave me to it and go on with your merry life. I don't need to hear you whine and spew statistics about how I'm killing myself.

Thanks you....so so so much. I couldn't have said it better. Really kudos.

Also it has been proven that smoking allows you to concentrate better :

The negatives do greatly outweigh the benefits though.

Nah, me and cigarettes don't agree with each other. I'm not allergic to cigarette smoke, but it definitely affects me negatively, to the point where I have to leave the room for some of the stronger brands of cigarette. But I refuse to be one of those conceited "I don't smoke so I'm better than you" types. Those people piss me right the fuck off.

As funny as that was supposed to be, I once ended up in the hospital because of a smoker like him.

Asthmatics exist, you know!

Its kind of sad because at my high school (In Canada) everybody smokes cigarettes, and started at grade 7 or 8. I see the convenient store near my school sell cigarettes as well to clearly underage kids. Oh well, I guess its the Darwin theory in effect.
