wine is weaksauce.

if your gonna drink, do it right. whiskey, vodka. do it right
While I am most happy to agree, I would like to add that mixing alcohol with lemonade, orange juice, or similar beverages is even weakersauce. If you want to drink, do it right!
Anyway, red wine in cooking and drinking, white whenever I'm bored (or out of bourbon).

I stopped drinking wine when I stopped drinking everything else alcoholic on August 14, 1996.

Prior to that, I always held to the "red with hearty meats, white with fish or fowl" rule---tried, true, and tested. Although more likely I was like "Guinness with hearty meats, a crisp German lager with fish or fowl"...six of one, half dozen of the other, really.

Fun fact: Between 2000-02, I dated a girl who lived with me and we had a few oddball house rules. One of them, since I'm a recovering alcoholic and she was more than happy to respect that, was "Pepsi with red meat, Mountain Dew with white meat"...which, surprisingly, works remarkably well!
Mountain dew goes with everything!

But I also tend to have a different wine depending on what I'm eating at the time. I only really have a glass of wine with a meal, the red with red meat, white with white meat does indeed work well.

I also lean toward white in Summer and Spring and red in Autumn and Winter.

Not a big wine fan. If I had to choose I would take white namely because just the smell of red wine makes me feel sick.

Between the two, I usually like white. I dunno, I just don't like the taste of most red wines.

This guy is the epitome of the so-called "wine snob" you referred too. That's why I would buy his wine, lol! (Am I allowed to say lol on the Escapist?)

Ah, Chateau de la Gardine. If you drink the red at all, try this. As for just getting drunk, like some of the hobos I've seen try the rubbing alcohol.

Well to be really snobby about booze, red vs white is such a huge classification in terms of quality and cost that the terms themselves really become meaningless. I mean, I would prefer a high quality (likely high cost) white to a rotgut bottle of red, but whoose the winner between a nice bottles of pinot noir and chardonnay? This are much more difficult questions to answer.

Short answer, red, usually has more depth of flavor, the vintages I drink are generally on the sweeter (and higher alch content) side, and to top it off, all the research and the great heart health benefits of red over white.

If I'm going to drink wine I'm gonna drink wine appropriate to what I'm eating. Red wine is for the "heavier" meat, like steaks and such, and white is for fish or something like that. It's all very complex...

When it comes to the "if they're all snootish because they can taste the hints of rosemary" question of yours, then I dunno. I don't really know anyone like that.

Red. Fuller flavour, spicy notes, more uses in food I like, and it's guaranteed not to be sparkling.

Cabernet Sauvignon (from certain places), Corbieres, Fitou and Rioja are all rather lovely if you spend just over a fiver.

At the same time, I'll buy three bottles of wine for £12, which is about the best deal which isn't £2 piss from Nisa.

There's an enormous difference between (most) whites and reds. I can tell that, and I smoke so much that by rights my taste buds should all be dead.
