I've been thinking with Xbox's Project Natal and Sony's Eye-something or other

Have gaming peripherals died since the olden days of the NES?

I think they have, I still remember whan the rumble pack was the shit, now it's just standard fare and motion control is all the rage.

As much as I wish they had, given the sheer number of the bastards clogging up the aisles of the local electronics retailers, I'd so no.

Here's a list of annoying peripherals that take up half the damned stores:
1.) Guitar Hero special "guitars"
2.) Rock Band special "instruments"
3.) DJ Hero wanker's-cramp-giving-machine
4.) Any of the 'extensions' or whatever for the Wii...mote? Thing. Controller.
5.) Karaoke games with USB microphones
6.) All of the random MadCats arbitrary things put out on the market for every console known to man (all made in China, in the cheapest workshop you can imagine).

And that's just the ones that immediately come to mind - I'm sure I could ***** about more given proper time.

Well, all the good pereferals are being included now. They haven't died, but ascended to a new level of generality.

The modern pereferals, though... Some of the stuff they're throwing out for the Wii just makes me laugh at the people who purchase it.

I think its the market saturation of things like DDR and Guitar Hero that really got on peoples nerves, having to buy a new guitar every year?, like WTF?

I don't think Activision realised we'd get pissed off with having a variety of controllers for different games, such as mixing decks for DJ Hero and a Skateboard for Tony Hawks (I mean seriously, come on?).

I'm certain I saw a news article about a kid fracturing his skull playing on the Tony Hawks board.

Lurking around my flat I have two guitar controllers, an arcade stick, a flight stick, and a racing wheel.

I'm gonna say no...

I really wish they would die, if they haven't already. They only encourage people to create things like Natal, and that's never a good thing.

hmmm. I got Wii-Motion Plus free with Wii Sports Resort, (was a bargain on ebay and I'll need it for Zelda Wii) a free steering wheel with Mario Kart Wii. Two Classic Controllers. One when the Wii first came out and another free with Monster Hunter Tri. And finally got a docking bay for the Wii-motes to charge them and save batteries.

Pretty much everything else can go to hell. I don't NEED a remote control for the PS3. My joypad does just fine.

Natal and PS3 Vibrator or whatever its called needs some good games before I decide on whether I want them or not.

Is a pocketbook something you keep money in in Suki the Cat land?.

How much do these peripherals cost?, wasn't Tony Hawk Ride 150 euros?

Unfortunately they haven't died, shown by Nintendo's ridiculous profits, but they most certainly need to die.

I'd just like to interject that these need to die, as well as the peripherals that accompany them.

Okay, moving to the actual subject at hand; nope. They're still alive and kicking, now more than ever it seems.
The clerk at EB Games had Tony Hawk: Ride set up in-store the other day, and I tried it out. I actually felt a little traumatized by that experience... Wow.
