i was just thinking, does school matter? would you still go there if it was just a choice?
i personally think it does matter, but i just dislike it. there are to many rules and too many boring teachers if it was more likeble, i think there would be less skipping and higher grades

what is your opinion

High school is only for the life leasons and only if you go to a PUBLIC high school. College however is where you learn that everything you learned in high school was completely pointless and how usless it is as "school". No child left behind. HAHA its bull sh*t if you ask me.

Of course it matters.

I may hate my school and I learnt much more when I was home-schooled, but-

Huh, when I put it like that it does seem better if I didn't go...

While yes, I think school/education is essential, I would like it much better if there weren't so many idiots.

In its current state no.I do think education is important, just that the current system is "Doing it wrong"

Absoultely. Although public education is far from perfect and could stand to be improved quite a bit, it's still essential.

Despite how much I find myself complaining about it, it does matter really...well most of the time anyway. I have a lesson called Functional Skills where we were given a booklet explaining in full detail in how to turn on a computer. Talk about patronising.

But yeah, school matters.

I love school, meet lots of people, learn life lessons, have fun and occasionally even learn something when you get a decent teacher.

Primary schooling helps you find what you do best, so you can be more specialized in college and get a job in a field you (hopefully) will enjoy. So it is important in that regard.

Yes, but most of it nowadays is just social drama and teachers who think all students are stupid (which most are, but not all). I hate the education system right now. And the fact that 90% of the students who go don't give a shit and, therefore, disrupt my attempts to listen and learn with their disrespect for the teacher and constant gibbering that makes the entire class come to a screeching hault, and then ***** about how their failing? AND the arrogant 'I know everything about anything' assholes who make you feel stupid for mispronouncing one syllable? Yeah. Really turns me off of putting effort into dragging my ass there every morning when I could be out working or drilling holes in my face with a white hot power-drill...

But that's just because I hate people...-sighs-

School is imporant.

It doesn't until you get some of the teachers who go above and beyond the required subject matter and actually start to teach you things

The only real point of High School is to prepare you for higher education. It is there to basically teach you how to learn properly. The foundation of higher education is also layed in high school.

On the other hand, the public education system here in Canada needs some major improvements.

Absolutely, without question. You learn more than just what's taught in the classroom, things like time management, deadlines, social interaction. You're exposed to all manner of ideas and personalities -- something you'll have to cope with in the working world. You're thrust together with people that you might not spend time with, if given the choice, and that's crucial to getting on in the world. You usually don't get to pick who moves in next door to you, who your boss is, or who your spouse's friends are, but you do have to get along with them, just the same.

Of course, the education is also rather important. Sure, most of what you learn is wildly impractical in daily life, but something doesn't have to be immediately useful to have value.

And while we're talking of strict practicality, the truth of the matter is that to most folks, "uneducated" equals "stupid," so not having an education is putting yourself at a disadvantage.

About 5% of the things I learned in my high-school years I learned in school.
About 25% of the things I learned in my undergraduate years I learned in school.
About 75% of the things I have been learning in my graduate years I learned in school.

Highschool: You're better off just watching History Channel.
College: You're better off buying a subscription to the Economist and dedicating about 10 hours a week to reading random non-fiction shit in your local library.

I think graduate education is the only education that actually teaches you anything worth the opportunity cost.

But, let's be real, highschool is just there to babysit teenagers so they don't get into throuble. It's not so much about learning.

School gives you the basics for formal education, but mostly it's there to teach you how to interact with your fellow man. You need it to develop your social skills, which is why, unless you live in the middle of nowhere, you should never be homeschooled.

It matters, unless your one of those really rare people that gets lucky and makes billions by accident (Bill Gates)
