Yeah, I think it'll be good.

Nothing about it yet seems like it'll be a complete disaster. Although we'll have to see how Carrie Fisher is gonna hold up.

It looks to be shaping into a neat space adventure movie, and that's all Star Wars needs to be.
Agreed, so far what I'm seeing is hitting all the right notes for me. Not to mention how gorgeous it all looks, using practical effects where they can seems like it's going to pay off big time.

Personally I don't think it's likely to get less than 70% on RottenTomatoes. It is very unlikely that it'll be "bad", but I'm not sure if it'll be "superb". I'm optimistic because Star Trek 2009 was a great film even though it had some nonsense science, and seeing as Star Wars isn't sci-fi that means there's little "science" to screw up (unless "midichlorians" return, eugghhh).

I kinda feel that these new Star Wars films will have the level of quality of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some great films, some "okay" films, but nothing disastrous. I sincerely doubt that we'll have another Phantom Menace.

Let's face it Episode VII will be complete fanservice, for better or for worse.

I think it'll be good enough.

Will it be the most amazing movie ever? No.

Since the answer above is no, will it reach up to the without equal amounts of hype surrounding it? No. That is literally impossible. -Literally impossible-. And I say that being a big fan of the "Nothing is impossible"-saying. Well this is.

Its going to dissapoint some, maybe even a lot, of people. Its gigantonormous fanbase, wary of another Jar Jar debacle, will probably be ready to throw acid at the movie regardless of how it turns out, regardless if its actually enjoyable or not. So it wont matter: It will recieve some negative attention. Hell it already has with people calling to boycott it -because of "overcasting" displayed in a trailer-. If that doesnt show the problem with this movie facing the impossible task of living up to its expectations then I dont know what will.

...but yes, -I- think it will be good. I think I will find preordering the tickets and going to the movies will be a rewarding experience, well worth the money. And in the end, that's what I personally truly care about. If its a fun movie to see or not, worth the time, money and wait.

I think it will be ok. I really want to love it but I honestly can't think of a single Abrams movie that I truly liked. I enjoy them while at the cinima but 5 mins after the movie has ended I find myself looking back on the movie and thinking 'Actually that was kind of stupid'. 3 months later I will then rent the movie and find that it dosen't hold up for me and I still think it is kind of stupid.

I guess the best way to put it is that for me, Abrams movie's are all flash no substance. Plus in refference to Star Wars it is looking more and more likly that in this new cannon Luke has spent the last 30 years doing fuck all instead of training new Jedi and I don't like that idea mutch.

But despite all this negative stuff I am feeling I still really want the movie to be good and I will not make hard judgements until I see it.

Not sure, but I'll admit nervousness.

The first two trailers had all the style needed, but left us light on anything plot related. The new one drops enough to get most people interested, but also leaves a bit of vulnerability to "the EU did it better" complaints with certain plot elements.

Factor in JJ "mystery box" Abrams and we get larger problems. Plot details are still light, and looking into a release schedule, I'm surprised at how much literary material isn't hitting shelves until the movie does (the prequel novelizations hit a month before each film), implying the surprise is central to everything. This can be good if he pulls it off, then I remember how badly he misplayed the surprise in Into Darkness and I'm left thinking, no.
Personally, I think this is one case where the mystery box is well warranted. Considering we're having articles written about teaser trailers for each trailer, do you really trust the internet not to completely spoil each and every aspect of the plot?

It'll probably be OK. It will definitely be major fanservice for the original trilogy, and otherwise won't exactly blow me away. There's a cool aspect in that a Stormtrooper is off doing a new thing, but I don't see anything else interesting resonating from this film.

Everything JJ does is the definition of a 6/10 - slightly above average but nothing special.

I'm thinking that it will be a serviceable action movie, just like his Star Trek movies.
The acting will be OK, the movie will look and sound good, the script will be meh and there will be a ton of fanservice and references to ep. IV-VI (I'm predicting very few original ideas).

I'm pretty sure it'll be good and I'm also pretty sure it won't be good enough for Star Wars fans to not complain about it loads, especially the expanded universe fans.

As long as it isn't irritatingly safe and full of overly telegraphed shoutouts to the original trilogy then I expect I'll enjoy it but it won't change my life, I've never been a big Star Wars fan.

I liked episodes 1 2 and 3 and never really got the negative impressions a lot of hardcore fans had.
I'm sure 7 will be enjoyable.

I voted I don't know, but since I'm not super cynical, I lean towards it being a good movie. I've never seen any of JJ Abram's films before, so I cannot comment on his abilities as a director myself. All the hate I see for him online is easy to ignore when I remember the internet magnifies hatred for anything by 1000 percent.

But I happen to not hate the prequels with an over dramatic passion, so what do I know?

Speaking as someone who actually really liked Abrams' Star Trek movies...

Well, yeah.

Honestly, the biggest hurdle for me has been accepting that the Expanded Universe got shot out of the airlock. There was a lot of it that I thought was garbage, but just the idea that it's no longer "canon" feels weird.

I think it will be alright. "Not bad" and "above average" come to mind.

I don't expect greatness, just a lot of Originals fanservice. It's the movies following this one that I'm more interested in. VII is just a marketing exercise for Disney, whereas it's with the other movies that they'll grant more freedom to experiment with.

As controversial as he may be now, I'm going to have to echo Moviebob with this one: Abrams is a very good director, but far from the groundbreaking visionary or the great character writer we need to get the franchise out of the rut the prequels got it into. And we kind of need all three. I mean, it may be great, but I'm honestly expecting a nostalgia-driven fanwankery project.

Though to own up to my own hypocrisy, I will admit that if the rumors that Darth Revan's legacy will play a part are true, I will be far more interested than I am now. And if Thrawn is in any way involved, then I will have to buy a ticket. Oh well, nobody's perfect.

I don't really know, I'll wait for reviews before even thinking about seeing it. But tbh I don't have high expectations for it, I'm no fan of JJ abrams whom I feel is similar to Michael bay as in his movies are mostly a lot of flash but little substance.

I will admit I got a few chills from the trailers, and I'm not a massive Star Wars fan. I hope it's not too melodramatic. The trailers are making it look as such. Star Wars has always had a light-hearted and adventurous feel (to the point it can be pretty fucking goofy at times), I hope this one isn't too tonally off.

I'm hesitantly positive and mildly excited, I think it will be fun to watch and the world they're building looks very beautiful and fascinating. I like the blend of old Star Wars aesthetic with some of the refinements and effects of the new style.

Nothing that I have seen for it so far has made me particularly excited. On the other hand, I can't remember the last time a movie before release has gotten me excited.

I'd say it could be a good film, at least... but, for me since I'm going to be watching it in the first place, it's probably going to fall within the same camps as either The Last Airbender, Pacific Rim, or Guardians of the Galaxy... Sure, I'll enjoy it from the amount of nostalgia I have left, let alone the standard joy I get from seeing any movie I want to see in a theater, but would it be enough to last the more I think about it after I'm done watching it?

Overall, yes... but the remaining results will vary as time passes...
