I like using Facebook to stay in touch with family and friends. I can do without all the invites to freakin' FarmVille and YoVille and all that other crap I really don't care about.

Actually, that last part of my statement makes me think of Xzibit... "Yo dawg, I heard you like social networking, so we put social networking in your social networking so you can chat while you chat."

I use Facebook, but largely for games. Otherwise Facebook would be a very boring experience. It's nice to keep in touch with people, though really the only reason I have been using Facebook this past little while is for the games.

I had one, then tried to delete, but they won't let you. It just 'deactivates' it, which is entirely pointless when you can just sign in again and everything on your profile will be the same, and people can still see your profile when it's been deactived, which is pretty sucky considering I deleted it for privacy reasons mainly.

That just really pissed me off for some reason, and the entire website is pretty badly designed.
I am in the exact same boat as you. When my facebook account was "deactivated" I was like... "Okay..." Then, I logged back in, and everything was THE SAME! Why even have a deativate button if all it does it give the deactivater a false sense of security?
I know what you guys mean. Took me a while to find this: [link]https://ssl.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account[/link]
Not sure if I am really going to permanently delete my account, but I have removed a great deal of information, including pictures of myself. I rather dislike how much of my information was accessible to others. Anonymity does have its advantages sometimes...

But a different question: where does social networking end, and forums begin? I mean, we have profiles here, we can be friends, so how is this different from facebook? Granted, the 'like' spam is replaced by good ol' regular forum spam, but still...
I see what you mean, but I think that on this site, a profile is not the main reason you come here. You come here to speak with like-minded people about things that you enjoy/ want to discuss. A forum is all about discussion. Facebook is about... Well, I couldn't really tell you. All I ever used to do on there was lurk- and creep other people's accounts, even if I didn't know them that well. Facebook seems rather pointless. Everyone needs verification, and needs their post/picture/status "liked".
But of course, I'm biased, so... Make of my comment what you wish.

Facebook brings out the stalker/creeper in everyone. I can even say that without worry of sounding biased. It is completly true. And completly disturbing.

I had an account that I never logged on to, but recently I've started being more active on my page. It's a good way to keep in touch with friends- I treat it just like an internet forum, except that this time, the theme is real life, as opposed to, say, video games.

Yes I have a Facebook account and I enjoy using it. I hate the hostility people from this site display towards it because it is an extremely valuable thing to have in the modern age; especially if you have a large number of friends you wish to stay in contact with.

I use it... Don't really like it. But it is a good way to stay in touch with my friends, who I can't really see that often. Plus the IM is kinda useful, since people rarely go on MSN as well now. I miss myspace though. At least that allowed customisation, and was easier to use. But, as people have said, too many others use it, so now I have to. If I stopped now out of principle, I'd just be inconveniencing myself. And that would be foolish.

<color=purple> lmao, you tried to lump people who use facebook together with people who like it. Those are two completely different questions....I use it. do not like it.

I use it, but don't like it. I find it useful for remaining in cotact with friends as my email tends to block virtually anything as spam, which is why I continue to use it, in spite of my displeasure with it. I particularly don't care for frequent changes to privacy settings they make. As a consequence, most of what I post is random nonsense that I'm not bothered that strangers would know, if they're that bored and stumble upon it.

I am quite often amazed by how little thought or consideration people seem to give to what they post on their pages. Everything from grandma croaking to TMI about their health issues.

I have an account, only really to keep in touch with friends whilst I'm at uni, or with friends I don't see very often.
Do I actually like it?
Hell no, but its a useful thing to have access to.
