Notes: This can apply for movies as well, in addition listening to podcasts/reading online or reading the comments that occasionally are in the front of the book.

Please pick the one that most fits you, and comment rather than just picking other by default

Just in case the Poll doesn't show/explanation

1. Pretty Much Always (You watch it if its included, because hey, you paid for all this anyways, right?)

2. Only When I'm Bored (self explanatory. You don't search it out, but when you find it packaged along and you want to kill some time, you go at it)

3. It's One of the Reasons I Buy (what's this? This comes with commentary on how these scenes are made? Sold! Maybe it's because you're trying to learn or just interested in the topic, but you specifically want this)

4. On Certain Series (favorite developer/writer/director/etc? You'll watch it here, if only because you follow their work/enjoy this because they make it interesting. This can apply for only certain games/movies/etc that you found interesting rather than the whole series)

5. Pre-Release Only (You are just giving yourself a taste of what you want as you wait. Nothing more)

6. Never (you don't care about it. You came for the game/movie/etc. alone and that's all you really care about. Let the details go unexplained, as it adds to the fun)

7. Other (please comment)

As for me, I only do it on certain series and ignore it otherwise. I still only watch it when I'm bored though, as I don't think of it as anything more than an extra.

What exactly do you mean "commentary"? Of what? Games? Movies? Do you mean just official commentary or commentary by random people on Youtube? Basically, what are you talking about?

If it's something I like a lot, yeah.

I watched the commentary for Fawlty Towers more times than I watched the regular DVD.
That is because John Cleese is a brilliant, funny, drunken man.

Actually, if the comedian that stars/wrote the show I find the commentary funnier than the film itself (Austin Powers is a prime example).

4.

I watch it when i know certian actors/director will be interesting/funny while the do it, not just sit and talk about "who" made the sets alllll the time.
Example, the remake of Dawn of the Dead with Zack Snyder is one of my fave commentaries to listen too.
Also the Superbad commentary is a good laugh.

watch comentary= (((Games || Series) && certain item) && bored)

I don't watch movies with commentary, too long to sit through.

I'm guessing he means commentary tracks you often find on DVDs my members of the production.

If there's a film I'm thinking about buying, whether or not it has a commentary track will often sway me either way. A decent commentray track is always worth listening too.

Occasionaly. I recommend listening to the commentary on Resident Evil Apocolypse, because its basically 90 minutes of taking the piss out themselves, the films, the disabled and also foam sponge.

Official commentary on any medium, be it just developer journals, describing what inspired the creation, full blown dvd commentary, etc.

Not:
Let's Play overlays/in-game announcers
Announcements over new gameplay features/casting/etc (unless they go into detail about whys and hows).
(Snide) remarks on Youtube about the quality
Over-analysis of the entertainment in question by a third party
News reports on "appropriateness" or other such things

So far I've only watched the commentary for Firefly and Serenity as its a good series AND not too long which would put me off some of the larger series.

In that case, nope, never. Might make an exception for a Bioware game, but even that's rare.

90% of the time if I am forking out for the DVD(or whatever) I'll pretty much go through everything. I watched the entirety of the LotR 4 disc boxsets because I was genuinely interested in what the documentaries were about.

Only for TV series, and only for comedies. The best ones are Futurama's.

Only if Edgar Wright is on it. The Scott Pilgrim DVD comes with 4 commentary tracks, 2 of which feature Wright! Pretty much awesomeness.

Yeah, I've watched the commentary on a couple things. The commentary on the Freakazoid Season 1 DVD was actually as informative as it is funny. It was also interesting to hear what the favorite scenes of the creators were in that, as well as Jak 3. I haven't really had too much of an interest to hear the Portal commentary, though.
