I'm trying to get a rough idea on how many people this happens too. Headaches, eye strain, motion sickness.

I personally cannot watch any form of 3. red and blue all ways gave me problems, Polarized, shutter, Last year I saw a prototype for non-glasses tv and it gave me problems as well.
so how many of you get physical problems from watching 3d?

I don't think i see the effects as much as other people. I remember watching Avatar, people were making a fuss but it was barely any different than the 2D version.

If i wear the colored glasses for a while it does start to hurt my eyes sometimes, depends how hard i have to focus to see the effect.

The only problem I have when watching 3D is trying to get the 3D glasses to sit right on my normal glasses. That's it.

I haven't been to see any new 3D films at the cinemas recently, but when Channel 4 did that week of 3D a while back I couldn't watch it because it gave me headaches after about fifteen minutes.

It's because you've got some specific wiring in the brain. Just like seasickness.
You probably can't deal with the fact a 3D overlay is flat. When you move around it, the perspective doesn't change properly.

Red and Blue gave me a headache as a child, I saw Avatar without any issues(although my eyes felt strained toward the end). Can't comment on no-glasses 3D

My wife gets motion sickness from me playing a FPS but not a 3D movie oddly enough.
Happens to me too. I had to soldier through the Half Life games on travel sickness pills.
3D occasionally makes me a bit dizzy but if I take off the glasses and close my eyes for a bit then I'm usually okay. Also, putting them on over my glasses feels strange.

I've seen all of two movies in 3D since the fad took off, and I had a different reaction to each of them. The first was Avatar, and I left the theater impressed but with a headache. The second was Toy Story 3, which didn't affect me physically at all. I think the difference here is that Avatar had too many objects that popped out of the screen, which for some reason always gives me a double image -- or at least a flickering one -- while Toy Story 3 was almost entirely made up of images going into the background, which works perfectly for me.

well I read a thing about a guy telling you how not to get a headache, it was an article somewhere...He said you had to keep your headstock still and only look at foreground images.

Me I like to look around the screen, I don't stay stock still I do it in games too. which is why 3d gives me problems, I look around.

Yes, that removes the problem of incorrect perspective. It's all about trickery that your brain thinks something's wrong with picture input (aka intoxication or whatever), thus switches to the "headaches->throw-up" sequence. In theory, you can try some motion sickness remedies. Though, the real harm IS these ingestive remedies. It should be perfectly safe, if standing still. Or just a harmless headache otherwise.

I wouldn't say harmless, when I saw alice in 3d I had to literally leave the theater, my headache was so bad, It lasted a day or 2.

You should read this article in Slate. You may have something called stereoblindness.

http://www.slate.com/id/2215265

There are also some other facts in the article about how many people are affected by this.

seems like alot of people are affected, and games dont cause it for such as flight simulators and such...its just allways been 3d that was the problem.
