Self explanatory I think. For example, Kirbys Fun Pak for the SNES is one of my all-time favourite games, even it is rather easy. But I also like the complex games, basically games with lots of statistics/item management (although not too much). What do you guys think on this subject?

Simple or complex you can get some good titles!

Simple - Skate 2: just go skate.

Complex - Erm, lets say a FF game. Big plot, character development, strategy, time consuming etc.. still alot of fun!

Dwarf Fortress and the digital dictionary known as Scribblenauts say yes.

No, a game does not have to be complex to be fun. I do prefer simple games though.

No, it doesn't need to be complex. It's quite possible to have fun with the most moronically simple of games.

I personally tend to find that they wear thin quickly and I don't really like them in general, but many other people can and do enjoy them.

'Course not. Just look at L4D, it can barely get any simpler: here are you, there is the end of the level, a lot of zombies are in between, good luck. And it's pretty damned entertaining.

If they do it right, either one is fine. Here's examples of either type:

Simple:
Good - Katamari Damacy. You roll a ball, you have a ball.
Bad - Evil Twin. There were tons of graphical glitches that easily killed you.

Complex:
Good - Digimon World. There's a lot of statistics involved to get the digimon you want but it's worth it in the end.
Bad - EVE Online. I gave it up as soon as I got 10 minutes into the tutorial. If it throws everything in your face without telling you what things do exactly or better yet, have to look up essential information outside the game does not make for a fine title.

No, it doesn't have to be complex to be fun. The overwhelming popularity of simple, casual games would seem to point towards this, and I can quite happily sit down and enjoy playing, say, Bejewled as easily as I can enjoy something far more complex, like Final Fantasy XII.

Both ways are good. Master of orion is a good example. I liked the first one but the second one was a bit too complicated to be as much fun. Serious Sam is another simple good game.
However complicated stuff can be fun too like Civilisation.

Exhibit A: Katamari Damacy.
Exhibit B: Animal Crossing.
Exhibit C: Wario Ware.
Exhibit D: Tetris.

All of these are fun, right? Pretty simple in execution, but can become pretty addictive. So complexity does not equal fun. It'll be nice if you can pull off complexity properly, but it's not required.

I have always hated Tetris, Pac-Man, Donkey-Kong, games like this. They never held my interest. I have always had the need for some depth in my games. These games seemed mindless, dull, and repetive. However, They do pose a challenge, and I can certainly see the appeal.

For me, I love getting lost in my game, strategy especially.
