Lately I've been thinking that GW2 seems to be taking too many ideas from WoW. Added races and a true z-axis are ok, but the lack of personal team design (from what I've heard no more heroes or henchmen) and greatly increased level cap seem to be taking too many ideas from WoW. The only news against this is that there still isn't a subscription fee.
Does anyone else get this feeling? (Please don't flame if you're a WoW fan).

The increased level cap is just a way to keep people interested. And I do believe they making it possible to bring 1 NPC with you.

Henchie control and the addition of heroes only came on with the Nightfall campaign. Truthfully, I was never a big fan of it. As to it being WoW like, any new MMO is going to draw that comparison. As long as they stay true to what got them this far, specifically a PvP focus, de-emphasizing the level grind, and no monthly subscriptions, they'll be around for a long time. All fantasy set MMO could be consired WoW clones, but GW has always felt distinctive to me.

Ya, but the 1 npc is not the same. I think they said it would be a companion that you could have, but not having it would allow you to boost your stats (I think they also said they got this idea from City of Heroes). So there's not really a reason for having the companion in the first place.

WHAT? this stupid "WoW Clone" shit needs to stop. Im sorry to use language like that, but I'm actually rather vexxed at this point.

Also, with GW2 SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO far off in the distance that very little is indeed known about it.

Even Guildwars is really nothing like WoW at all.

Seriously, man... If you even think they are anything like WoW other than the fact they both fit into the genre of being Massive and Multiplayer, you should really check again.

Is GW2 an actual MMO? Or is it another 'everything is an instance!' game with only a few places that are ACTUALLY massively multiplayer?

I don't think that guild wars is a WoW clone. i thought that the skill sets and group designs made it more of a strategic game. But part of GW2 seems to just b becoming 2 much like other mmos.

I was using the same argument with 2 different games to show how ridiculous it was :p Really...though, NOBODY can ever be pleased. When GW came out, people were complaining it wasn't enough like WoW. And now they have a go and "fixing" what people complained about and people are saying it's too much like WoW.

i didnt think that gw was a wow clone, nor do i want it 2 b one. gw was a good game (in my opinion) bc of the strategy involed, such as building skill sets to find a build that can kill the current challenge. to me, it seems like some of that may b ignored in gw2. truthfully, i might b overreacting bc id rather have a 4th campaign instead of gw2.

on a dif note, i thought u had the wrong forum bc i also started a hl2 forum around the same time u posted, n thought u might have clicked on this by accident from my account.

I'm a WoW fan and I'd just like to say you're a fu-

Joke.
I wouldn't be surprised if they are, they'd be idiots to ignore the success of WoW and its ideas.

If you look hard enough, ANYTHING and EVERYTHING looks like WoW. There's a simple reason for this: WoW looks like everything and anything.

Seriously, any RPG that's announced immediately brings out a throng of people who insist that the game is exactly like WoW. DnD 4th ed "looks" like WoW, Dragon Age "looks" like WoW, SW:TOR "looks" like WoW, and now GW2 "looks" like WoW.

No, it doesn't. WoW uses common elements of the (MMO)RPG genre and so do other games. All of those elements were around long before WoW and you can't say a game's ripping off WoW just because it has some commonalities. That's like saying all FPS games are ripping off Half-Life...

If you're played Guild wars, then you would know there are many things the series does differently to WoW, and I for one got bored of WoW after 4 months.
I'm still playing Guild Wars, though.

Fixed it for you. I think he was making fun of how you picked a few things that are common to a lot of games in that genre and then said it's a clone, you did it with MMOs, he did it with FPSs.

That's what every single mouth tard without the slightest sense of dignity, let alone brains always says.

GRRR! IT'S A HALF LIFE CLONE! IT'S A WoW Clone! ITS A HALO CLONE! IT'S A TF2 Clone!

Really, in this market, everyone's ripping off other people's ideas, so what does it matter? What's calling it a clone going to accomplish, if hell all anything?

i play WoW and GW. they are similar, but i dont think it matters. GW is more group based rather than character based.
