So if you were making your own private collection of movies from HBO or taping songs off the radio, you were within you legal right to do so. It was how ever illegal to make more copies and sell them.

Thing is, it's not illegal to tape off the TV for personal use. It doesn't matter if money went to a fund or not.

Piracy will never stop being easy for people as long as the internet exists, and in the future, companies will practically have to beg people to pay for something they otherwise consider free.

Those companies still making obscene profits? Entertainment media is doing pretty damn good, even in a recession.

Hopefully the media industry will be able to survive on goodwill and stupid people that can't torrent

Copyright is legally justified as an incentive to creation. But century-long terms are only good for rent-seekers, pointless for artists, and destructive for the audiences and popular culture as a whole. People don't respect copyrights because they can smell the bullshit. They can see that the game is set up against the public interest.

I respect artists, the work they do and their right to be able to make a living from it.

I do not respect copywrite law, it has become far different than being about protecting artists and instead is about protecting the coporations that have purchased as much of the rights to all forms of art as they can. I feel very strongly that coporations such as Disney are destroying creativity and taking long established stories and myths and trying to possess them.

Copywrite law needs to be heavily ammended so that it protects ONLY the original artists, and perhaps the companies they work for in some limited way. The absolute maximum that something should be protected is within the actual life time of the people who created it.. if they are dead, no copywrite, end of story.

I don't really pirate things anymore.. I don't like too, I can afford things I want, but I still don't agree with the rules that are in place.

I can understand copyright existing during the creators life but afterwards it should belong to the public domain, and no a corporation does not exist as a person(nor creator) in my mind.

It makes me sad when I see anime clips/TV shows/etc on Youtube horizontally flipped to 'avoid copyright infringement'.
It doesn't work that way.
Fair use and acceptance/unawareness from the company is keeping that video up.

I also believe intellectual property owners can get a good deal with Youtube.
They can place ads on other videos which contain their material, and earn revenue from it.
Especially good for game footage or videos with background music, because TV shows on Youtube may result in a loss of DVDs sold.

FYI we have to pay up to 160kr fee on buying external hdd and usb sticks (160kr=23$) that goes to artist and such since their reason is that everyone that buys usb sticks and external HDD copies their music/movies and give it away to relatives/friends (Which is legal in Sweden) which is called Privatkopiering.

Well unless you buy usb stick everything will cost 23$ more and they wanted ous to pay 250kr at first (Considering that a 1tb hdd used to cost 400kr which would have given ous more then 50% increase in price)....

And of course this is before moms, so if they charge the companys 160kr it will more likely cost around 200-250kr more in store.

And they expect to gain around 100million Swedish kr a year from this fee.


And I guess most of the money will go to Magnus uggla and such people, I doubt very much that any death metal bands will see any money at all.

However, because of how laws are written, you can get fined thousands for playing the radio in your workplace, because it's considered public performance, even when it's not a public establishment. Seems the recording industry is forgetting that the radio station is paying royalties for performing the songs publicly.

To be fair, Youtube is probably REALLY strict about those kinds of things because they want to avoid a lawsuit at any cost.

Which makes sense. Lawsuits suck hardcore style.

They are not strict. Someone just used the report function. There was no lawsuit involved.

The issue was a video of a kid getting hit on the head by a paintball (that is all over youtube) that I modified with video editing software and to which added my own content.

Copyright laws were actually supposed to protect me.




As far as I am concerned, copyright laws should only protect intellectual property and not restrict it because it's all turning into a global joke.

The 28 years sounded fine to me and, if the author dies before then, their inheritors can pick up the rest.
