Private education is no better(in quality of material learned), just more expensive. (At least in higher education) Private schools merely look better on a job application/graduate school application, but your level of education coming out of them is no better than in a good state school. Even with a private education you're only going to get an entry level job. What really matters in a career is work experience.sneakypenguin said:

Seriously though, that is what I think. As for the US.. I could not possible say anything, as I have too little experience. I did visit an elementary school in Boca Raton (Florida) when I was twelve, and it seemed okay at the time, but, as far as I know, the qualities of absolutely anything can vary from state to state. Some of your states just seem like different countries overall. Also, I hate to say it, but I can think of no miraculous way to rescue the educational system (or a myriad of other things) of the States. Sorry.

It seems my school blew money and 45 minutes of today's class time on a MAGIC SHOW. Good school system?! It's terrible! The new schedule is ever worse. They actually spent more money and grades have dropped faster than the WaMu (including mine). It's not ADHD friendly and seeing as how I have ADHD I may have to retake several classes my senior year.

Fact is, you are in secondary school, you are not going to enjoy all your classes and are going to presume they are all irrelevant and useless whether they are or they are not. History, for instance, is valuable for understanding reasoning behind modern political systems. Separation of church and state does not make much sense unless you understand the world in which this wasn't the case.
But let's say you are more into gaming and would like to pursue a career in game development instead of politics, and assuming you're not interested in making period themed games:
Physics is important in developing game systems, the concepts are key components in animation, and understanding them aids you in art creation and working in the game development world.
Writing is a huge component of gaming making English important and even if you aren't going to be a writer, you will be working with various documentation and communicating with a team and will need to know how to do so clearly.
DO NOT get anything less than an A- in trig, srsly, you will be kicking yourself for it later.
You get the point. If you looked you could probably find relevancy in any subject you are taking, focus on that. Being worldly makes you better at your chosen field than being whiny and ignorant of anything but those things you find immediately interesting (most of which aren't nearly as awesome as you think, grass always greener sort of thing)
also, I'm willing to bet you get to choose electives, which is all about learning to structure your education within an established curriculum.

Teachers (at least in WA) have to take a single semester of Psychology to be admitted to the Union or whatever they use. During Psychology, they inform the future teachers about a very important discovery that occurred... oh, fifty years ago or so. The discovery?
The human mind is NOT a warehouse.
Yet the school system continues to shove piles and piles of information into these children's heads, making them memorize facts for two weeks until they pass the test. Let's examine the definition of learning.
Learning: Long term retention of memorized material.
Two weeks =/= long term.
The school system does not teach. They force kids to memorize and regurgitate information. Then they don't mind if you forget it; they did their jobs. I asked myself, "Why don't they -want- to teach us, make us learn?"
Of course, it's just speculation on my part. But think about it; if college professors (for the sake of argument, we'll use them) make X amount of dollars per student per semester, and they have a way to double, triple the value of X, would they not do it?
College professors teach the old-fashioned way. When I say old, I mean educational practices that were used over two thousand years ago. Since the students don't actually retain much of the information they're "taught", they are forced to take the class AGAIN, thereby putting more money into the professor's wallet.
True learning is when you can be TAUGHT something the correct way, and then four years later answer a question about the learned topic.
At least, that's the way I view it.

I think the system in England is fine, at least in my school, I got to take my GCSE's early inn year 9, which I passed easily and then got to go into sixth form by year 11, I'm 16 now and I'm in the final year of completing my A levels and I'm predicted B's and an A, and I only have 3 lessons a day at the most so its brilliant for me as I'm lazy and intelligent
Schools have gone down the pan in Wales. My ex-high school has gone down the route of mixed-ability classes. Supposedly this will encourage the less motivated to work. In reality this is just dumbing down everything, leading to more disruptive classes. Also the continual testing and evaluating of schools based on grades lead teachers to advise pupils to do subjects that have higher pass percentages (Media studies and the like) than subjects like Chemistry, Physics and Law at A Level.
I really hope that the grammar school system is re-introduced as the current system is farcical.

It's bumbling along for now, give it a few years and it will need a desperate overhaul. I'm intending to become a science teacher so I'll find the future interesting...
As far as I understood it...the modern school system is to create viable workers, hence the broader emphasis on subjects. As long as you can read and know basic arithmetic the system could care less about your education. And I'm not saying this in any pessimistic or angry way, just stating it. Low level workers are always needed, and schools are there to provide them.
Anything beyond that is up to you as a individual, some schools do provide some measure of assistance, but that of course varies.

Probably indicative of the parents. A parent who sends their kid to a private school is likely more involved with the kid's education.(There's an investment to protect) More parent involvment is equal to better grades.(According to the experts, of which I don't always trust) That's my take.sneakypenguin said:
