Agreed, although since i only have an Xbox i'm probably being a little biased.Treblaine said:From what I have played it has been so poorly implemented, I mean most of them are straight ports from the 360's achievement list and even mention aspects only available in the 360 version.
It is just a different ethos to gaming that I would never have bought into PS3 over 360 if I had known it would turn out this way, I mean the idea of having a trophy cabinet in your virtual Home space... it just makes you look like a total dickhead.
Achievements seem far more personal, which is kinda fitting with their name "what you managed to do is for YOU!" for achievements whereas PS3's trophy's seem to be entirely about "loo-o-ok at mah trophies!". Even then unless you use Home (and I WON'T) it is unnecessarily hard to access your trophy list. Trophy's just seem so patronising:
"You have earned a trophy!" yay, the game rewards me with something effectively worthless
vs
"Achievement Unlocked" seems more like a fact, a milestone, pride in oneself rather than approval from Sony's Trophy Distribution Unit.
Even the concept of Trophies annoys me, they release them way into the console cycle and they clearly want to be like Achievements but don't want to be too similar... even though PC games have been "borrowing" the concept of achievements (Valve especially) with great success an without any criticism of being unoriginal.
And when you actually win a trophy, I know it's a little thing but the presentation is pretty naff. But that's just my opinion. The "ding" and tucked away in the corner info box with an obscure and hardly iconic trophy symbol.
Also, could you give some examples of when PS3 trophies mention aspects only available on 360?
