Poll: Does this situation constitute lying?

Let's say you are writing a resume.
Now let's say that your former job "organization" received an excellent award in the past. Yet you were told by the top leader within this organization (at the time) that only those worked between X and X dates were those who truly qualified to claim the award due to their direct involvement.

Yet, I was still a part of this group whenever the org was announced as the winners.

If I were to put on my resume "that my organization won the Blank Blank Award" would that be lying on my part?

It is a lie, but in this day and age, it's a forgiveable one, and a damn good tactic at trying to get a job. I'd say don't do it too often, as if you get caught on it you may be a bit screwed, but also don't feel horrible about it.

Then what's the point of you posting here? I'm sick and tired of people doing that... you can ask for advice anywhere. Just because you have nothing useful or moral to put into this doesn't mean other people don't.

I don't see a problem with lying to get a job. Of course, if you say you can do something, and you can't, you might be in trouble, but overall, it is fine.

that's really tough to say, not sure. you could dance around it like saying "while i was there they won This Award" which really isn't a lie but it's more of an omission of truth

just as long as you don't say "i was part of the team that won This Award" and you should be fine

As far as I can see, you did take part in this, it's just the leader's orders that prevent you claiming credit for it. Thus it wouldn't be lying but breaking an order. I'd more consider whether or not the order is fair (I wouldn't know since I don't know how much you worked for this project). That should give you your answer.

This isn't a lie. Only an anal company would ask about it and only a really anal company would check up on it. And since you were involved, it's not a lie if you word it correctly.
