Yep. Because when he badmouths a game, the used price tends to drop dramatically within one month. So I can buy the games he rags on for cheap. Even when they deserve the butchering, by then the price has dropped enough to make it worthwhile regardless.

Yahtzee never *lies*, per se- rather, he relies on hyperbole for humour. So, given that, you can gain some- some, mind- perspective from his reviews. For example, if he mentions "Escort" at any point, I will not, under any circumstances, buy the game (Well, as long as the comments page afterwards doesn't prove him to be a big liarface)

That said, a game granted a genuinely good review is always worth at least a look.

Nope. Not a single bit. If he says a game is bad, chances are i already rented or purchased it, and already know its bad.

And i he says a game is bad, and i havent played it, i'll just rent it first.

I don´t even have most of the games he reviews...If I do, however, it makes his videos more funny. Like the Army of Two, Red Faction Guerilla, Battlefield Bad Company 2 or Kane and Lynch 2 Reviews. Althou I lashed out at the KnL2 review because he stated some things about it that where logical from a real world standpoint, but fortunately not from a typical game standpoint (half your ass hanging out of cover and still being unable to be shot is the typical approach to "covermechanics", watching ones flank for a dude that could pop you regardless is unknown to most gamers).

Also, he rips popular and pretty good games apart, as far as I know, alot of people liked both Mass Effects, he wasn´t that thrilled.

It is also pretty stunning to see him review a game he actually likes. Still he can´t keep himself for mentioning the bad parts of them XD (Exept for Portal, it seems.)

I enjoy his videos because they are something else...they are however HIGHLY opinionated and one sided, and putting the opinion of a paid internet critic over my own feels a bit weak.
Like, when someone is a serrious fan of JRPGs, I don´t see a reason for them to lash out at Yahtzee or not buy a JRPG when he reviews one, because HE doesn´t like them<.<

Yes, because I'm capable of separating the review component of each video from the "funny stuff related to the game's details." It's very rare for him to openly state for or against a given game, so when he does I'll usually take his words to heart. When he doesn't, his description of game elements may sway me, but I say this as someone whose default is "Don't buy."

No, he's a satirist.

I mean, I didn't start eating babies after I read A Modest Proposal.
No. Just...no.
But you understand what I mean, correct?

That rarely anything he says should be taken seriously -- in the case of A Modest Proposal you shouldn't take any of it seriously, even if it is a well made argument it is one made in jest. Yahtzee even said it himself that he deliberately focuses on the negative aspects of the video games he "reviews" because that's what's funny. It's even funnier when you've played the game yourself and know what he's talking about, he's essentially a stand up comic that relates to you.

Yahtzee's review of EVE made me try it out, and I'm currently in my third month of enjoying the crap out of it.
Make of that what you will.

Edit: I was slightly disappointed that the skills "signature analysis" and "signature focusing" don't actually relate to handwriting, though.

Well I have to consider that myself and Yahtzee have different tastes, but I of course do listen to his opinions on some things, he may be an angry ranting fed up reviewer but there is a nugget of knowledge.

Then again I also take Penny-Arcades opinions, and in cases I disagree with both.

It depends. If I'm on the fence, I'll watch his review. Say what you will, he's good at pointing out the flaws in games. I just don't always think his complaints are that big of a deal. If I'm debating a game and he reviews it, but the things he talks about don't bother me, I'll probably pick it up.

If I look at a game that looks awesome and is geniunely good, I'll get it no matter what (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Vanquish whenever I get the chance). If the game looks bad from the get go, then I'll be a bit hesitant. Doesn't really matter what Yahtzee's opinion on stuff is.

If anything, Yahtzee gives warnings of potential brain-cell killers. That, or points out the flaws that some or none of the population notice.

Yahtzee is funny, but he doesn't affect my gaming experience.

well yes, but only if i haven't played the game and am only going off reviews. if i play a game and like it and yahtzee hates it i'm not going to automatically change my mind about it, but that doesn't really happen much because i usually agree with him.

At least.
Yeah, he influences me a bit. I find I agree with most of the things he says. I don't let his, or anybodys, opinion be the only one that decides my purchases though.
And I'll be saying the same thing next week I bet. Maybe next week I'll post some cool ascii art. For variety.

Yes, that doesn't mean I agree with that he has to say, but I listen to it, he may be a comedian, but he still has a fair few points in each review.

No yahtzee has nothing to do with the games a buy. If he does you're an idiot.
Untrue. If you're the type of guy who picks up games occasionally if you can find them cheap and second hand during fleeting gaps between having to actually do a shit-ton of work, then you may find it useful to get a game he hasn't hated, since you have in the past realised that your enjoyment of a game correlates significantly with how much he didn't hate it.

The last games I bought: Arkham asylum, Prototype, Bioshock, Prince of Persia. I cheerfully admit that's because he said they were good, and I wholeheartedly enjoyed them. If I'd bought, say, Too Human, Sonic Unleashed and Mirror's Edge, I would fully expect my experience to be reversed.

There's no shame with taking/being influenced by a guy's advice if your taste has correlated with theirs in the past, I find say, moviebob a useful critic because I've never enjoyed a movie he's panned and have frequently liked those he's raved about. Additionally, I'm not an idiot, but I don't really want to provide conclusive proof of that, it would sound very conceited.

I watch Yahtzee purely for the entertainment value. He says it himself in interviews and the reviews themselves that he plays a game, writes about all the stuff he doesn't like about it, and talks about for the sick and twisted people like you and me who have nothing else better to do on a Wednesday afternoon (or otherwise).

So no. [sub]And shut up[/sub]
