One thing that always troubled me before meeting my girlfriend was "What if she doesn't share my passion (addiction) to video games? OH DEAR GOD WHY!?!?!"
After a week she was mowing down pedestrians in a buggie in Saints Row 2, and spending countless hours on SMP Minecraft with me.
Back on topic : Does your significant other play video games? To what extent? Do they kick you arse at said games (She learnt how to use shotguns in Reach way to fast :S)

Mine plays games like The Sims, Harvest Moon, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Need for Speed, and I think she likes other games. She's played parts of Assassin's Creed and GTA4, methinks. She also enjoys watching me play, though.

I wouldn't mind at all if she didn't like video games. It's not really a "passion" for me, just something that's sort of a hobby.

Oh, she tried playing A Link to the Past, but died a whole bunch of times in the castle at the beginning. Her saying "Come at me, bro" at the guards was cute, but she gave up.

Depending on your interpretation, my significant other either doesn't exist, or is integral to me playing computer games as the manipulator of the WASD cluster on the keyboard or the left analogue stick. Interpret that how you will.
That was glorious.

OT: My last girlfriend did, albeit in a sporadic, slightly poseur-ish kind of way. Mainly an old-school Nintendo fan, but I managed to get her to finish Portal and Bioshock.

My wife is a big fan of Persona games, is on Kongregate CONSTANTLY (when she's not reading manga for hours on end), and gives every multiplayer game I get a try at least. She's not great with action games that require quick responses, but she still plays them and has loads of fun. I think the game we've played the most together is either Guardian Heroes or SSBB.

We both play video games together! It's sort of how we met. :3 On a gaming site. Lol. Though it was a friend I met at college who introduced us. He's a little more hardcore into gaming than I am, but I sure do have my moments. It also depends on the game. :3

We're gaming partners. <3 I could never be with someone who didn't play video games. :) He's the perfect man for me! <3

Yup, we are a pretty tight knit gaming couple. Just waiting for you to get Uncharted 3 so we can play that together. See that, I'm willing to hold off playing a game I have just as not to piss her off!

I almost always kick her ass though, I devote a bit more time to games than she does so I turn out being the leader or dominant player during co-op.

Very true. :) And I also love it when he's dominant. <3 So it's all good. Lol.

My GF plays pretty much everything. She isn't so good with FPS games, but absolutely adores assassins Creed.

She is pretty good at fighting games too.

My girlfriend plays almost everything. Hell, we get together every so often for games of Half-Life 2 Deathmatch and she's even going to pick up Metro 2033 later this month.

I think I've found the one for me.

My gf plays video games. We met on WoW. ..She likes games like Dragon Age and Assassins Creed. We love playing games together, but she frequently doesn't have the time during this half of the year (she makes costumes.)

We're not the same sort of gamers though. She plays for escapism, I play to solve puzzles and be awesome. So, ..10 times out of 10 I'm better than her across the board, but we don't let that get in the way. Neither of us are competitive :p

I couldn't date anyone, or actually even be friends with someone who hated video games or didn't care for them. I'm into all aspects of them, their technical aspects, their creation, etc. I'm also an animator, one day hoping to be in the gaming industry.

...My pool of human counterparts is very very tiny >.>;

Both my fiance and I play, to the point where I think our house is starting to have more hardware in it than a branch of Game. We've turned one bedroom into a computer room, that contains the PCs (one each), the media system and a PS3. There were... discussions... over who got to play that PS3, so we bought another one and put it in the bedroom. But since the newer version isn't backwards compatible, we've got a PS2 in there as well. There's the XBox 360 down in the lounge, and the original XBox in the dining room. The list goes on... Although we often have different tastes in what we play, we've played EverQuest together for five years.

I guess I'm quite lucky. Or maybe he is, having found a woman who not only loves gaming, but also works for a games publisher. Most women I know don't really play, even if their other halves are big fans.

I was tempted to go with 'somewhat', but I don't think that's fair.

She is, to her credit, very good at Assassin's Creed. I'm better, but we'll just disregard that. She also plays Minecraft regularly, and she played Deus Ex Human Revolution, Fallout: New Vegas and Saints Row 2 when she came to stay with me. She's getting an Xbox 360 for Christmas, and I'm pretty certain that will be her gateway into bigger things. So I went with 'yes'.

My current girlfriend likes SOME games, she definitely doesn't share a blanket passion for the medium like I do, sometimes I can introduce her to something more unusual but really it's the generic shooting stuff she doesn't enjoy. Portal, Donkey Kong Country, Amnesia (which absolutely terrifies her) are things she likes and I can kinda see why, to the observer there's not much difference between shooting people in Killzone and shooting people in Call of Duty (sci fi vs contemporary aside) they're very similar looking games with very similar experiences that don't really challenge the player.

Having a general interest in more unusual titles means we can play co-op Portal 2 or struggle our way through an old 2D platformer and in her spare time she'll play more modern casual games like Plants vs Zombies or Angry Birds. I also have to say that playing Streets of Rage 2 with the significant other is a very fun experience even if friendly throwing occurs a lot.
