Well it's that time of the year again... The time of the year our school has its annual blood drive, with its peer pressure slogan of- "When you donate, your blood can be used to save up to 3 lives; so if you don't donate, you're killing 3 people!" (and yes the football team DID come up with that slogan)

So how do you feel about donating blood? and would you yourself?

(if this is a double post I am horribly sorry, I had a weird glitch because I was holding "Shift" when I pressed "Enter" [too much skype you know])

The first 2 comments will be fixed soon- it's supposed to say "but it's not killing anyone"

I would donate blood, but I am not 18 yet, so I cannot do so, legally. I will when I am of age though.

I've donated blood but i don't feel people should be forced into it or made to feel guilty for not doing it, people have some reasons why they do not.

Pah, we don't have "Blood drives" over here.
We have certain temporary clinics set up on certain dates for registered blood donors to go to.
I myself donate blood, since they slackened the quite tight rules a bit (But they still won't allow men who have had anal or oral sex with other men to donate blood, even if their blood is fine ¬.¬).
So yeah, I go and donate my blood freely to repay the system, in a way.
They saved my life, I'll give them my blood to save other lives, and my organs when I no longer need them.

I'm not outside, thus limiting the chance of saving someone's life. By their logic I'm a horrible person for wanting to be at home because I'm not out there trying to save lives. Or better yet, I'm not studying to be a doctor, so I'm killing people. Donate if you want, don't if you don't, who cares?

I would donate blood but I'm shit scared of needles to the point where I'll vomit whenever they're taking blood for tests, hell just talking about it is making my skin crawl right now.

As for the slogan I don't think it's activly killing 3 people but giving blood is the chance of saving 3 after all not all donated blood gets used,
Refusing to give blood during an emergency is in my opinion at least activly killing them.

I have yet to donate blood. However, it's apparently the easiest and most efficient way to alleviate my hemachromatosis.
(Disease which makes iron gather in my blood, which can cause liver and kidney problems later in life.)

I usually donate blood if there is a blood drive going. Having type A- Blood, which is a very uncommon blood type from what I'm told, my blood is especially sought after because it's used in helping treat cancer patients.

My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor whose been cancer free for 10 years and it's probably because of the blood donations she got that she was able to make it through treatment. I'm not a spokesperson for the Red Cross or anything, but donating blood really does help and is probably the reason my grandma is still with us today!

I would donate blood but they have this weird policy of not allowing gay men to donate which makes me hesitate if I should go and get approved at all, potentially wasting time.

Also I'm somewhat adverse to having my blood drained but I do see the positive side of it. Especially since I'm 0 negative which is always needed.

Lets ignore my <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trypanophobia>trypanophobia for a moment. I actually wouldn't donated blood just for that slogan. Charity is supposed to be a generous act and not something to clear your conscience.

I've yet to donate blood and my school never set up temporary clinics or anything like that. Still, my blood type is either O negative or A ... something ... so there's a 50% chance I'm an universal donor which sort of gives me that "YOU HAVE TO DO THIS" feeling for some reason...

I already donate, but not because I will "kill 3 people" by not donating. That's just silly.

I signed up as soon as I was shown a presentation about it.
I don't see how it's a bad thing at all. My first donation is scheduled for the 22nd of this month.
I wish more people would donate, it's a useful thing to do.
