I played a lot of DOS games growing up. My favorites are Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3d and Crystal Caves. I played those ones in particular, even after we got that fancy CD-ROM thing and the Sega Genesis.

No love for Dark Forces? I've had it since I was a kid, and I loved it then, but the true brilliance didn't hit me until I started a new playthrough a couple months back. It still holds up as one of the best FPS's of all time, right next to Doom, Quake, and Unreal. A heck of a lot of fun, and I heartily recommend it to anyone who likes FPSs but hasn't played it.
Edit: Kudos for remembering RoTT, though. That was an even better game than Mortal Kombat for a kid looking for the forbidden fruit of violent videogames back in the day.

My favorite DoS game by far was Fantasy Empires. Old fantasy strategy game by TSR. I spent countless hours on that game, I still have it too. Unfortunately I do not have the manual any longer and I need it to actually play the game (strange form of DRM). I was also a huge fan of wing commander and Prince of Persia.
Have you checked to see if there's a text file with the answers somewhere? If you poke around on enough abandonware sites, you're bound to find either that or a full copy of the manual.barbzilla said:

So TES:2 for me, totally great game- I was having a blast with it, when I was younger, I recently started it again and it's still awesome.
(Although Heretic has gauntlets of necromancer and those are pretty epic)

Call me crazy, but I miss DOS in general. Sure it was tedious typing in the exact commands, but it felt like you were truly interacting with the computer. Moreover, it helped teach accuracy and precision when typing; having to retype a lengthy command because you missed one key was enough of a hassle to make you pay closer attention next time.
Sadly I cannot play most of the games listed in the poll, as I tend to suffer from motion sickness when I play early FPS titles like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. Mimicking 3D environments by manipulating 2D sprites just doesn't sit well with me.
I was more of a flight and space sim buff in the DOS era. I must have spent hundreds of hours playing classics like X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Red Baron, A-10 Tank Killer, and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat. Thanks to programs and services like DOSBox and Good Old Games, I still play many of these games today.

I find you lack of Star Wars X-wing disturbing... Seriously, that was what got me into gaming. Been doing it ever since.

What about Hexen? That was pretty good, and a different direction than fantasy DOOM.
Also, System Shock. I find the controls difficult, but it was good.
