Having gone to the trouble of writing the thing, for fun, I felt that I would feel
worse about not asking than asking and almost certainly being refused. After all, if you don't ask he definitely won't change your life by saying yes. I explained this to him and he accepted it. Still, it was a bit like Adam asking God if he needed any help on designing Eve.
