It's a good game. Looks good, sounds good, plays great. The last beta patch mucked things up a bit, but the devs have stated that they are aware that some things didn't go as planned and will be fixing it before the game releases.
A lot of people seem a bit annoyed at the new direction the game is taking. I for one am glad that they didn't just slap a fancy new engine on DoW1 and tried to pawn that off as a new game (like so many RTS franchises do nowdays) and actually tried to do something new. They evolved the genre with CoH and decided to go forward with the concepts they introduced there, such as a focus on tactical combat, decreased importance of base structures and emphasis on map control.
For RTS "purists" SC2 is coming soon. I for one plan on enjoying both games,
