I love how all the dialogue choices are marked, and how outside of dialogue you're character will speak accordingly. On my first play through and I'm playing Hawke as the "Mage with the Big Mouth" since Anders is so much more.....vengeful.

How is everyone else doing (you know you want to choose smartass)?

EDIT: Why do polls never show up right?
EDIT 2: Does anyone else get this weird glitch where in most cutscenes the characters will flicker constantly?

I'm playing as a rogue and generally I think I do more of the hardass responses (the red & fist icon) but to be honest I've done a fair bit of the sarcastic and the "peaceful" responses just depending on circumstances.

I've only watched a friend play through the demo, and this comment may sound a bit wierd, but for once the dialog LOOKS natural. It looks almost as if they're speaking to eachother. Not just standing right up and down blabbering to the wind. Clap clap to the animation compartment.

I'm playing as a rogue. Actually a female one, because I like the looks and sound of her. Before I've always chosen male characters, if there's a choice, in games to be able to relate better.

I usually go with the straightforward red one. But it depends completely on the situation, so almost as often the joking and polite choices as well. It all depends. I'd like there to be more options sometimes, even one, but I don't mind this either. As a whole, I like DA2, the more I play it, even though many changes did rub me in the wrong direction at first.

Also because Hawke randomly talks about things, and its adjusted to the attitude chosen so that it feels like Hawke is alive and not a blank slate.

I'm playing female rogue. I'm generally picking the smartass options, though I try to roleplay a bit. I go for the nice/diplomatic options whenever talking to family members (except Uncle Gamlen) or whenever someone mentions they've been through similar burdens as Hawke (dead relative, apostate relative hunted by templars, etc.).

I love that you can tap certain companions to speak in certain conversations. And I'm so happy they not only preserved party banter (I was worried based on ME2's silent squadmates), they made it better. It's fantastic how sometimes a third character will jump into the banter--sometimes even Hawke!

Yeah, this is really improved. I see a lot less "BioWare face" in this game. I had Anders and Fenris in the party when an apostates vs. templars quest came up, and during the conversation with an NPC, Anders and Fenris started having an argument in the middle of it, and it felt totally natural and believable. (I found Fenris kind of dull up to that point and that did a lot to redeem him in my eyes.)

Usually go for the smartass, agreeable or peaceful response... Though i did go a bit rageful at one point (the bit where harbor master has to give you info i think) and hit every red option there was... I ended up having to pay the man for info i'd just been threatening him for at knifepoint...

Made me look like an ass

I'm a smartass rogue, who also tries to keep the peace. I avoid confrontation mostly, except when I'm pushed, then Im very violent.

I really like the new system, smartass hawke is fun.

"You can't kill me in broad daylight."
"Fine."

WTF, you've killed hundreds of people in daylight before. Who cares about some back ally brat like you?

I'd say the crowning joy of Dragon Age 2 is how good and well written the dialogue is.

I'm playing a Mage and I'm using whichever dialogue seems to fit the situation for me (usually sarcastic). It just seems so natural.
Doesn't it though? It makes Hawke feel like an actual character. Especially when you get a house and you interact with all the different stuff, Sarcastic Hawke usually makes a funny reference to Isabella or Varric.

Playing a female rogue, generally smart-ass for opening dialogue and then agreeable or friendly dialogue later. Those who brandish weapons or challenge her are met with sheer anger and arrogance though. My girlfriend still hasn't figured out the pattern and figured out that it is pretty much me, minus the character being female.

Edit: I am really enjoying the dialogue and it seems natural, and although I never did finish Dragon Age: Origins (sat through my GF playing through several times though) I have yet to meet a character I like as much as Alistair.

I also enjoy huge difference between having my sister with me w(hom seems to share a lot of the same mentality as myself or at least agrees with me for the sake of it) vs my GF's current play-through where she has to deal with Carver's whining.

I played mage that only picked the evil one in dialogue and...killed everything. I would have slaughtered shrubs if they looked at me wrong. I only picked smartass when I wanted to play relatively nice.

Hated most of the dialogue and characters though.

im finding many people are confusing the "smart-ass" responses with the "inappropriate comic relief" ones.

that said, i usually pick the middle or mercenary option seeing as my only other choices are the standard jesus/sociopath dichotomies. i do like that hawke will actually carry conversations based on how you respond though; adds a great deal to the flow of dialogue that makes it seem more natural.

frankly though, i kinda find myself yearning for the boring neutral responses...hawke makes jokes at the WORST of times, which really makes him seem like more of a sociopath than if you went for the actual sociopath dialogue.

...and will someone tell me what the hell the purple diamond is supposed to mean? every other symbol is obvious, but i cant figure out what tone that stupid thing is supposed to represent.

I love it how you can pull an 'Alistair' at any given moment. Rock on Bioware.

I was a Rogue that mostly picked friendly dialogue. I RPed, I'm a bit of a doormat. Yeah, the banter between characters was incredible. Anders almost got punched in the face a couple of times. He constantly ridiculed my lover and said "You know, she'll pick her demon friend over you in the end." to me while she was in the party! Seriously, I almost decked the guy.

I'm generally a mix of peace and humour, but I will drop an anger line when it's most fitting. THe only reason I don't do that more is because of the way it's set out; some people complain that the wheel says one thing and then he says another completely unrelated thing and why isn't he saying what was on the wheel whaargarbl, but I actually think he comes off as a bit of a **** on the wheel, but if you dare to pick that option and risk people being pissed off he's not nearly as bad when actually speaking.

I've been going mostly nice and sarcastic at the moment.
Though it's annoying when I try to do sarcastic to Isabella, 'cos he always makes some joke about wanting to bang her.

I'm playing a male rogue at the moment. Right now I'm just a goody-goody, next game I'll play as a sarcastic mage or warrior.

Like everyone else is saying, the voice acting is amazing! And they fixed that bug where party members would just suddenly stop talking. I mean that used to happen for me in origins. So that's awesome. And Anders is awesome. The whole game is AWESOME!!!!

Smartass male rogue.

Given the class availabilities for your companions, it really seems to me that I should have played a sword and board character. Avaline is just... I want to murder her. Every time she opens her mouth.

As Aveline says, "Hawke, do you hold nothing sacred." Nooope. I don't use smartass remarks when I think they'll make things worse or don't convey what I want. Other than that they usually do.

Carver no likey the smartass brother. Maybe your sister will treat him better. Doesn't matter in the end either way.
