Poll: Dragon age 3 yes or no

I'm anxious to see where the story will go from here on out. I rather liked Dragon Age 2, although it felt entirely disconnected from DA:O with the only real ties to it's predecessor being the occasional cameo. I didn't think it was a bad game, just one that didn't feel like Dragon Age.
I really want to see more loose ends tied up: repercussions of the Dark Ritual (if you did it), aftermath of the battle at Kirkwall, etc.
I really like the Dragon Age series, but I don't have high hopes for the third game. I'm absolutely not preordering it or picking it up any time soon after it's release, but if I hear even lukewarm reviews, I'll still give it a try.

DA:O is probably my favourite game ever, and while I am aware of what many percieve as its problem (combat being what I hear complained about most) at the end of the day the story and the characters get me invested every time I play the game, to the point I find it slightly irratating that there isnt a character I dislike.

I appreciated what DA2 tried to do to sort the combat issues (though I feel too many RPG elements became over simplified), but at the end of the day the story tried to do too much and at the same time never raised the stakes to match that in DA:O (my crowning example of this is in the final section of the game cullen telling you, if you sided with the templars, that the crisis of the ferelden circle was much worse...and that was one of the easier bits of origin). As for the characters they were very hit and miss, which resulted in me not really caring too much overall.

For my part I play a Bioware game for the story and characters and unless the actual gameplay is cripplingly bad I probably won't be to badly affected. So DA3 I would be more than happy to see providing priority is given to the writting with respect to making it more like DA:O, as for the gameplay sort it out whichever way people generally prefer

I felt the stakes were far more raised in 2, as it was a much more human drama. The darkspawn in Origins were a faceless mass of nothing that I couldn't bring myself to care about too much because there was no personality or goal of theirs to engage with. All the while, the far more interesting tale of Loghain's betrayal and coup had to take a back seat. The pro- and antagonists of 2 were people whose ideals and actions you could react to more complexly.

The human drama element in 2 would have only worked for me if I had been as invested in the characters in DA2 as I was in DA:O, if you can get behind these characters good for you I just personally couldn't. On the other hand the darkspawn being a faceless mass that essentially use living races to feul their uncontrolled expansion (broodmothers and literally feeding off people) without any identifiable human element I felt added to their threat. Sure it doesnt mean they have a complex motivation but considering it makes them a threat that can only be dealt with through one means (only being destroyable through sacrafice of many lives) gives a far greater weight to the monumental task at hand. DA:2 though bringing up the mage/templar conflict in act 1 it never really looms over the plot the same way the threat of the impending blight did (especially in act 2 where the quanari take centre stage and if it weren't for the some of the emphasis in act1 narration dialogue it would have been easy to think the qunari were the going to be the main 'antagonists' of the game and the conflict between mages and templars simply acted as more reason for them to try and enforce the Qun)

I certainly hope there will be a Dragon Age 3. I want a dedicated isometric perspective like in the 1st one though.

... since the hell when was DA:O isometric? I feel you are thinking of a different game...

Edit: Unless you mean the "tactical" view? Which was completely optional (even during battle) for PC users...

Pictured: Isometric Viewing Angle reminiscent of Baldur's Gate... kind of a selling point of the game >_>. And yes, it was optional. My point is that I enjoyed it and I would like to see it return after its absence in DA2... jesus.

Yeah, there should be a DA3 and it should be a 'best of both worlds' mix of Origins and 2. Not that bothered if the the protagonist is voiced or not but I think the combat should be similar to DA2's (but for the love of god, get rid of the randomly spawning everywhere waves, that was irritating). Origins sense of scale would be nice too. Instead of just running round one city and the nearby areas, it'd be nice to go around a whole country again and see some variety. Story-wise, I preferred Origins story on the whole but that's mostly because DA2's ending left a sour taste in my mouth (the whole Meredith/Orsino trying to kill you even if you took their side pissed me off). Would be nice to have the darkspawn as a major threat again though I think it's a bit early for another Blight. And please please let us pick races.

Really? I hated it and never used it unless I lost track of where one of my non-party member allies were lol.

As for "selling point" of the game- I never saw any trailers for the game. I saw fuck all about it really xD I picked it up while in Future Shop completely at a whim. And now I'm ruined forever when it comes to RPGs because darnit I want to customise my character! *shakefist*

I will not be buying any more Dragon Age games, unless i read atleast three reviews saying "Its like Dragon Age: Origins, almost like Dragon Age 2 doesnt exist!"

Yes I hope they do. I actually prefer certain elements of two to Origins. I like the voiced protagonist, and I like the combat in two more than origins. I prefer my rpgs more on the action side. One big thing I preferred in Origins was the ability to choose when to have a full dialogue session with your companions, and the camp location. I thought it worked really well as a rest and recover area to talk to your party. But I did mostly prefer DA2.

EDIT: While I'm not 100% convinced it should make a huge difference to my opinion, I am playing them on consoles.

On the one hand, Origins was good.

I just hope we don't have to be a human in a fantasy universe again, because playing a human in a fantasy universe is like playing an accountant.

for my first playthrough of Origins I actually played a human. I really liked the storyline actually. Second time round though I did go for for an elven mage who was a bit of a douche.

Fun times.

However I lasted all of 2 hours playing DA2. I couldn't take to it at all.

So I voted for 'yes' but with the caveat that if it sucks I'll probably be done with Bioware.

I'm not so hot on bioware at the moment but that doesn't mean I want them to stop trying. Maybe they'll start making games that I like again. We'll just have to see. I think that they should make whatever the hell they feel like even if that thing is dragon age 3. I might not buy it, at least, not immediately, but they can't turn things around for themselves if they don't keep going.

I liked origins for what it was, picked up DA2 and played it for about 30 minutes, then traded it to a friend for Dark Souls (best trade I've ever made)

I'm convinced that after DAO bioware lost all its ability to make a good rpg. I mean say what you want about Mass Effect 2, but a good RPG it was not.

Origins had the best pure roleplaying element out of any video game I've played. My characters always felt like my characters. I never played 2 because the switched to the Mass Effect style wheel, and Shepard always felt like one of two characters that was Bioware's character rather than my own. Hawke seemed like the same thing but with 3 choices rather than 2. That wheel is going to be in 3 so I am already skeptical.

I don't know how it'll turn out, I just don't want it to be rushed. I want that old feeling that the developers had time to really put their heart into what they're making.

Combine what made Origins great, the ideas DA2 did right, and focus on a solid single-player story.

They've said they're going to mix the good bits from Origins and 2, so theoretically we should get a game practically identical to Origins - in which case I'm in. I'd keep the faster combat animations from 2, that's about it. Conceptually it was mostly very interesting (excluding the defined, human protagonist).

Presumably by "dedicated' he means it was completely viable throughout and had a practical use - he's not saying you had to use it, just that it was properly supported.

I never played 2 because I found the first one mind numbingly dull, but what I've seen of 2 makes it look far better
