While technically not a romance, the bromance you can have with him is one of the highlights of the series.

Barring that, Aveline

Again, technically not a romance, but of the girls in DA2, she was the one I wanted to romance the most, mainly because she actually felt like an actual person instead of a snarky pair of tits (Isabella) or a neurotic mess (Merril).

As for DA1, I'd have to say Wynne, and again, for feeling like an actual human being and a person I'd like to know in real life.

Funny how characters NOT written with boning plot hooks tend to turn out better, huh?
Agree so much on Aveline. She's the one character that I always have in my party in DA2 playthroughs. I was fairly disappointed to find that she wasn't romanceable.

Out of the existing options? Merril, probably. She was awkward enough(especially in the beginning) for me to find amusing. Failing that, hmm... Viconia?
Love Aveline, that kiss made my day but who is Viconia?

Captcha:Most HD Why yes captcha, the HD made it better thanks for noticing.
Viconia was a romanceable drow cleric in Baldur's Gate 2. Just a bit of a joke that I really didn't like DA's romances as much as I did in some previous Bioware games.

The romance between Aveline and Donnic is my favorite. The qeustline in DA2 where you help them hook up is incredibly sweet and funny.

Okay fine player romances then. I actualy think Morrigan's and Issabela's are better worked out but I prefer Leliana and Merril. I picked Leliana in the poll because in the case of Merril I should probaly let the forces of natural selection do their work, but I just cant. Plus well how can you resist that Accent.

Don't really know how Nathaniel's romance works out, although I know it doesn't lead to anything physical, just romantic.
Do you mean Sebastian?
Whoops! Lol, yeah I did; Nathaniel is a different archer Rogue. My bad. Sebastian actually wasn't too bad of a character compared to everyone else with his issues (I should rule...but I want to work in the church too! What do I choose?!), except for when he has to ask you to pretty much dictate how he lives his life afterwards.

A shame I forgot, but really....when you have Varric you don't really need him. Who could resist putting Varric in the party? Thanks for the correction!

And yes with the voice actor. He does a few voices elsewhere, and everytime he pops up I'm like `Fenris what are you doing here`.

He does voices for Skyrim, Wildstar and Diablo 3 as far as I know.
I liked him best as Sam Gideon in Vanquish and Balthier in Final Fantasy XII. :D

For Origins, I have to go with Morrigan or Alistair, depending on what gender my Warden is.

For II, I'd have to go with Isabela. Heretically, I'm not a fan of Merrill. I knew how she was in Origins and she was bleh. Then they completely changed her in II and she was still bleh.

I don't play a gay ManHawke and I don't like FemHawke, so I don't romance any dudes.

...None of them really. They were all really, really bad. But if you are asking which romance can actually be seen at the bottom of the barrel... None, I'm sorry. I tried to come up with one, but they all are creepy, pointless and/or token.
Romance was never supposed to be a selling point in DA. The fact that this discussion is going on instead of discussing moral stances on important in-universe issues shows how degraded the DA community has become.
To be honest, even Bioware have failed to tackle those issues in a meaningful way. I have no idea why the romances are so popular, but it may have something to do with the rest of the games. Nobody is talking about how you could "romance" Visas in KoToR 2 because there were more important things going on and being explored in a masterful way. Bioware lack that and I'm, quite frankly, disappointed by the missed opportunities and squandered potential of both the DA universe and ME universe.
I disappoints me too. They shifted focus in all the wrong directions, which crippled their games' potentials. It changed from MY spacemarine and MY fantasy warrior to THEIRS. It changed from a gritty space cowboy adventure and a dark low fantasy epic to shonen-esque feats of inevitable world saving. Their art style panders more towards teens through stuff that "looks cool" as opposed to creating a mature atmosphere with grit. Their characters were simple but strong; now they resemble a soap opera. In fact I'm genuinely surprised they haven't come out with "Team [love interest]" shirts. This company went from being my absolute favorite to a representative of every thing I don't want to be. This company isn't the worst out there, but it is one of the most creatively corrupted I can think of.

I love Merrill, and she does eventually give up the mirror, but not before getting her friend and mentor/and her entire clan killed because of her naivity. Blood magic is absolutely fine by me if you can control it and at first I thought she was in control and that that was really cool. But she just keeps making mistakes showing she's in over her head. And her mistakes cost lives.
She only gives up the mirror if you Romance her and are a Rival with her. Otherwise she keeps it I believe. One thing that I like to point out whenever anyone brings up the "Naive Merrill"/Her Mistakes Kill People argument is the fact that Merrill never actually gets anyone killed in the game. Everyone that dies due to Merrill is their own faults for not trusting Merrill. There's the guy that runs deeper into the cave and gets himself killed, the Keeper willingly takes the Demon into herself because she doesn't trust Merrill. In other words the Keeper risked her life, and the life of anyone who had been in contact with her for the last 3 years because she didn't think Merrill could control the Demon that she had literally resisted for the past 7+ years. Not only that but Merrill doesn't even go to Audacity's shrine for several years until she can get Hawke and several other trained, battle hardened warriors to come with her, because she is taking every precaution she can to make sure if she gets possessed that she is killed on the spot. You know... the thing the Keeper DIDN'T do. Merrill will often tell you that Demons can be helpful but she always tempers it with a warning. The only time Merrill even goes to the "dark side" is when you go into the Fade to help the elf boy. But surprise EVERYONE turns on you in that quest, so Merrill isn't anymore dangerous to have then any of your other team mates.

Oh and my answer for best Romance is Merrill btw.

You know what, you're absolutely right. Everyone throwing themselves on the sword for Merrill is not the same as she gets people killed and not once is it ever shown that she can't resist except a scenario where NO ONE can resist so yeah not one casualty to Merrill's name (nameless npc enemies cry foul and are rightfully ignored). And yeah Keeper let the demon in and doesn't tell anyone so what if Merrill was actually talked down by Hawke or if the demon overcame her will while she was with the tribe? KEEPER WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU DID NOT THINK THIS THROUGH AT ALL. And while I love Merrill to bits my vote is unmoved.

Merrill, she was probably the best thing about DA2

I probably have a thing for bumbling awkward people with Irish/Welsh accents ;D

And since i usually play a mage too, kind of helps with the choice.

I actually find having a more defined character to make the games more engaging, but it's certainly true that it makes the experience a very different one from an RP perspective. I will say though that the world-saving bit raises an eyebrow for me - one of the huge differences between DA2 and basically every other Bioware game that came before it was how non-epic the story was. Like it or hate it, Hawke was not saving the world, so if anything, I'd say the apparent epic-ness of how DAI looks so far is more a return to roots than anything else.

Heh, they actually did sell shirts like that after DAO. Not literally "team" ones, but they had "Morrigan disapproves", "Zevran approves", and "I heart Alistair" ones. Not to mention the character shirts that they sell for ME.

That's too easy, Anders no doubt.

Now a tough question is who deserved it and isn't named Anders?

That quest has been historically bugged a lot (and I think it still is) so it's pretty easy to miss the cannon ending to it.

Leliana, Morrigan and Isabella were my three favourites (in that order). Leliana was such a sweet, good-natured badass (seriously, how many people would have the balls to accuse a fuckin Qunari of being a softy?), Morrigan was entertainingly sarcastic, and I enjoyed Isabella's thinly veiled threats of violence, double entendres and innuendo.

I'm not denying it. I mean, he knows it himself, but at the same time.. Anders won.

Anders has a goal (and it's actually a very worthy goal) and he does a horrible thing to achieve it which totally works. Global mage uprising. Chantry in disarray. World forever changed, all because Anders was willing to do what noone else was.

If you think about it, Anders is actually kind of the protagonist. Hawke is really just some guy (or girl) who happened to be in the middle of all this shit. But Anders is basically the only person who isn't in some way invested in the status quo, who isn't just trying to hang on to their respectability, or their job, or their family and friends. Anders is the only one who is actually on this big world-saving heroic quest. Everyone else is just trying to keep the plates spinning and get through intact.

And that's kind of brilliant when you think about it. Because who in the world really thinks like an RPG character? Who in the world really acts like they're on this big world saving quest which is their one driving objective? The answer you'll get is generally a bunch of douchebags.

Morrigan is easily my favourite, I explained this somewhere else before so I'll just copy paste it.

Honestly I think Morrigan's romance was one of the best in games. In a lot of games *cough* Mass Effect *cough* the romance is just building up to sex and that is it rather than looking at how the relationship between the characters impacts them both and importantly their relationship doesn't exist in a vacuum and rather is impacted by events of the story at large. With Morrigan's romance sex isn't the endgame because well, sex isn't the endgame in a romantic relationship. You don't just have sex and then that is it. The relationship has problems, real problems, not fake bad rom-com end of the 2nd act misunderstanding where she thinks he did something bad so they break up rather than talk about it for 5 seconds but then she finds out he didn't do anything and they get back together, now they are happy forever, the end. You can have sex with Morrigan early enough in the relationship, rather the romance actually deals with the characters' relationship with each other on a emotional level. Morrigan undergoes a character arc as part of the romance/friendship she has with the Warden (I look forward to seeing in Inquistion how Morrigan is different depending on how the Warden interacted with her in Origins, they could just cop out and have her be the same regardless but I hope not) as she really opens up more and it becomes clear that she isn't just a heartless ***** who is incapable of liking anyone. The relationship ends up being tested with the Dark Ritual and no matter what it ends pretty tragically in the base game. Witch Hunt does more to conclude it which I really did like, but regardless of your decision at the end of it, they were still apart for 2 years. I like the dialogue in Witch Hunt where the Dalish you are with mentions you fiddling with the ring Morrigan gave you, personally I put the ring on the moment I got it and didn't take it off.

Then Alistair is second for me.

I wanted to pick Merrill, but ultimately, settled for Morrigan out of unavoidable honesty. Morrigan came from an epic, inspired gem of a game whereas Merrill happened to be a well-voiced, interesting character in a stand-in money grab that happened to not be awful purely based on the ability of its developers.

Morrigan is so much more consequential and thus, has more impact on me though I do like Merrill as a character.

I chose Leliana, but I'm not actually certain it was a "romance" as such. The only time I've completed the game was with a seriously evil political schemer female noble, and it turned out kind of abusive and creepy. The game has a mechanic where you can basically kill the spirit of both Alistair and Leliana, which gives them different attitudes and allows you to take some different options with them in the game. In the end my Warden married Alistair to become queen despite neither of them being interested in one another, and Leliana stuck around to be the Warden's mistress.

Not particularly romantic, but far more interesting (at least to me) than the standard love interest tripe I expect from most games/films/everything.

Just for the sake of accuracy- Witch Hunt takes place just a year after Origins. Awakening is six months post-Blight, and Golems in my headcanon is three months after that.
