you can unlock the specialization then load an old save and still have your specialization unlocked.. specialization unlocks seem to be tied to your gamertag/whatever PS3 has, rather then your individual saves.

Yes, it is. In my current playthrough I unlocked the Reaver spec and then loaded an earlier save and got the happy ending to the quest.

Champion/Berserker for my dwarf. I really don't care too much, the skills I got with these didn't alter my playthrough drastically, as I hardly ever used them.

the best would be a combination of berserker/champion with templar/reaver. I'm currently doing a champion who will become a Reaver (sorry to piss off Leliana). Now that Return to Ostagar is fixed, I can have multiple classes. Woot!
