Now I know it can get worse in uni depending on subjects and such, but for now I will take the view of a high schooler. kids gets swamped with 7-8 hour schedules 5 days a week, only to come home to do homework from any amount of 2-6 hours of homework, depending on the day and schedule.
The only time I've seen anyone have this sort of schedule in high school was a friend of mine who was taking 5 AP classes simultaneously, and she still had time for volleyball and academic competition and violin practice and just hanging out. If you're having trouble, then you need to learn how to make better use of your time and condense what you're doing. I knew kids in high school taking quite challenging courses who never did work at home--they'd do it all on the bus or during lunch.

It's training for life, REAL life, you know, the one where you get up, drive an hour to work, work for nine hours, drive an hour home, and then pick up the kids at daycare, make dinner, get them bathed and in P.J.'s and in bed, and then sign onto your computer for your night classes. If you're having trouble with the schedule now, while you're *young*, just imagine what it'll be like when you're working 16 hours a day as a 30 year old.

Revel in it. Some of the stuff you're studying is actually interesting.

I'm a double major in college right now and am also working two jobs. I would kill for how little I had to do in high school. College is a lot like a 9-5 job that assigns tons of other things to do on your own time.

So no, I do not think you are being worked too hard--you are not being worked hard enough, if anything. I took AP courses and did other things and I almost never had to study or do homework at home. Enjoy yourself while you still can.

I'm going to have to stay fairly neutral on this subject. When I was in high school I had a history teacher that every day he would assign a chapter and for homework we had to do an outline of what was in the chapter. The next day we had a test on it. Lather, rinse, repeat 5 times a week. Yes he did grade the homework and yes that is way too much work for one class. In years before that I had said "teachers give too much homework blahblahblah" but it really wasn't.

tl;dr some teachers do give too much homework, and some kids complain way too much

One of my big peeves is when there is a three-day weekend or holiday break and the teachers find it excusable to assign a lot more homework "because you have more days to do it!"

NO! WRONG!

A break is supposed to be a break. Let the kids (and yourself) take it easy for a few days rather than cramming in a pointless assignment or project.
