It seems to be the general consensus that the Nintendo DS and it's later upgrades are, alike every handheld console Nintendo have released, immortal if they are kept out of the hands of children or kept away from water. However the general consensus is usually a massive exaggeration of a majority experience or opinion, where the minority is drown out. So I put the the escapist, does the Nintendo DS suffer from terminal hardware failures? What is the risk of a failure?

Furthermore, has a gameboy ever died on anyone? I swear the Gameboy colour could have survived the Tsar Bomba and then some, the son of a ***** would not die. I'm genuinely interested to know if hardware failures of the DS occur however, and would appreciate any feedback or even better, stats on this.

Thanks alot :)

The only time i heard of one breaking is recently. When my mom knocked her juice on it then turned it on to see if it was alright...

Yes my mom sucks with machines and it didn't occur to her that turning a wet machine on would damage it.

And yes, i know that's not a hardware failure, i just laugh when i think about it.

I've played hundreds of hours on mine and it has one dying pixel.
One (Directly in the center of Pheonix Wright's forehead).
After years of abuse.

Most of the complaints I've seen relate to the hinge breaking, the screen cracking and a bunch of other stuff that falls under the "No shit you just dropped it down a flight of stairs onto concrete." category.

Hinge breakages are semi-common, but that's about the only regular failure I've seen.

and there's this gameboy [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/a/a7/20060308051419!Game_boy_damaged_in_the_gulf_war.JPG] that was damaged in the gulf war (the first one) and still works perfectly.
