DS lite is made with cheap flimsy materials and the shoulder buttons go after a while. DSI addresses those problems.

Lite for the backwards compatibility. I personaly don't think the DSi is all that great.
Side Note: Is it just me, or does the DSi ironically feels like a crappier version when you hold it due to it feeling smaller and more "metallic"?

I'd say Lite. There really is no point for the DSI to exist as most of the games on the DSIware are shit ( Except DQ Wars), The camerea looks like its form the 90s, and overall the DS Lite is just better so just get it god dammit!

I'd say DSi, only because you can pretty much go out and find a GBA for dirt cheap. That way you'll still have something to play you Advance games on. Or you could just use your old DS for Advanced games.

Yeah, in your case like what several people have said you might be better off actually upgrading to the DSI. If the hinge problems with the lite were fixed then it's definitely worth it, especially if only one of your old DS screens is messed up since you can play the GBA games with only one screen.

Do some research. What appeals to you more: GBA compatibility or the DSi store? Keep in mind that it's easier and cheaper to get GBA compatibility in other ways (buying an SP, for example) than to get the DSi store (for which you need a DSi). The differences other than the above are virtually negligible, so it comes down to this one factor.

Personally I'd go for the DSi, because I already have an SP lying around. But that's, as I say, personal preference. Check out the games and decide whether you'd rather go without the DSi store or spring for a GBA of some sort.

It might be just you. When I held the DSi, I thought it felt TONS sturdier than the Lite. The lite is NOT designed well, but it's cheap enough to replace its shell should the hinge break.

OT: The GBA slot can also be used for trading Pokemon and playing Guitar Hero. Also, if you are interested in flash cards, there is a really nice one that goes in the GBA slot that enables rumble and plays GBA games.

I did a little research; turns out that while the older DS's can't play the newer DSi games, the DSi has only just been released to mixed reviews.

If you plan on keeping the old DS and it still works fine otherwise, I would go with the DSi. If you need a replacement, however, I would give a lot of thought to the DS lite for the game boy advance games and homebrew support.

BUY THE DSi!!!!! I bought it and it blew me away how great it was!!!!! comparing it to the ds lite is like comparing a super soaker to a bazooka!!!! seriously though, the DS lite is an inferior piece of equipment when compared to anything on the market. dsi is BEYOND any other handheld system! I put off getting a 360 to buy it!
Have anything to back up those big claims of yours?

If you have an SP, get the DSi. If you don't have an SP get the lite. Unless you don't play GBA games at all. It's that simple. Because the original GBA doesn't have a light up screen, and the DS's and SP do. If you don't play GBA games there's no point in buying a DS Lite. If you do, but have an SP, I can't see a reason to get a DS Lite unless you don't want to carry 2 systems around. I do anyway cause I still play gameboy color, and I have a Lite.

Bottom line is I'd chose a Lite because it is more compatible, but if GBA is not a concern, then unless you don't have the money go with the DSi. But I'm not planning on ever cashing in my Lite. kthx
