Poll: Dubbed or Subbed?

Subbed usually, but DO NOT watch Haruhi Suzumiya subbed, it's terrib le compared to the dubbed version.

Dubbed, i don't mind sub but i prefer dub over it, unless it's complete crap dub, i like dub better because i can better understand it. Since, you know, i don't understand any Japanese.

For anime, definitely subbed. I'd hate to think how potentially bad a Gintama english dub would be like *shudder*.

There are good dubs in existence, but nothing beats the subbed original IMHO.

I prefer Subs myself, but sometimes they can be so bad as to detract from the show (mostly due to bad pirating admittedly). On the other hand, not many dubs have been done well enough to hold my interest. Funimation does a good job with their dubs, but few other companies do that well imo.

This happens way too much in anime communities. English dubs have come a long way since the old days and not all of them are "screechy" as some people care to label them as such. I'll hold em down for you if there's gonna be any punching Love the avatar too!

On the whole I prefer dubs. its easier to just sit back and watch the animation+listen to it instead of reading too. I don't mind reading some subs on newly released fansubs but if Im buying a dvd and watching it, I will default to the English language voice over really.

To me, it depends oh-so heavily on the voice acting. I don't mind reading sub titles, in fact I watch more sub than dub when I can, but if the voice acting is awful then I'm going dub.

I watch anything that isn't originally English in sub's. Especially live action things, I can't stand watching other actors butcher the inflection and intonation of a line, it drives me crazy. The only thing I don't mind watching in dub's is kung fu movies because I don't really watch those for the plot that often. But if I'm trying to watch something like Seven Samurai, M or Solaris I can't stand the dub's.

When it comes to anime I can watch it either subbed or dubbed. When it comes to foreign films I can only watch them subbed. I always turn on subtitles whenever I watch a film.

Subbed all the way, though I like a couple dubs more than the original Japanese (i.e. Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion).

I'm pretty defensive of subtitled anything, since I think watching things in their original language is more natural and loyal to the creator's original intent. I had a friend once insist that anime was made for foreign viewers and that dubbing is a right of all fans to have. I really raged on him about that.

Many dubbings tend to have voice actors whose voices don't fit the characters. There are exceptions, of course.

Then there's the whole lip desync issue, again there are good and bad examples.

Then there is of course the shows that are just so silly you'll cringe if you understand what anyone is saying, meaning subtitles can actually make the show better/bearable.

For me it depends on the voice actors.
Some dubs are better then the subs like Spice and Wolf and Baccano. While some subs are much better then the dubs like Highschool of the Dead and Sekirei.

Dubbed primarily, but I have rules. I'm not a sub-hater the way I used to be.

I'll for sure watch it dubbed without changing my mind if:

1) The dub is good enough for me and/or better than the original Japanese (Believe it or not, it's possible that Glorious Nippon can be trumped every once in a while. Cowboy Bebop, Haruhi Suzumiya, FLCL, Evangelion, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Cromartie High School)
2) I grew up with the dub and so have nostalgia for it (Rurouni Kenshin, Yu-yu Hakusho, Great Teacher Onizuka)
3) The show takes place outside of Japan (Baccano! Fullmetal Alchemist)
4) The main cast isn't Japanese, therefore it makes no sense to hear it coming out of their mouths (Black Lagoon, Baccano!, Fullmetal Alchemist)

I'll for sure watch it subbed without changing my mind if:

1) The dub sucks (Irresponsible Captain Tylor, countless others)
2) The show's too culturally Japanese to make sense of in English (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei)
3) I simply can't wait for the dub, even if the dub is good (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.)
4) I start the show subbed, and so can't be arsed to change it back now that I've gotten used to the voices (Fate/Stay Night)
5) The show isn't getting licensed (Detroit Metal City, Ore no imouto ga Konnani Kawaii wake ga nai)

I prefer dubbed but only if it's good. Best example of a good dub is Hellsing Ultimate. In fact it shouldn't even have a Japanese dub, it doesn't make sense. No character is Japanese. Do you know what an Italian accent sounds like in Japanese? ...Didn't think so. Also, want to know how well a Japanese person can sing in German? Answer: not very well. Of course I can't leave out the fact that Crispin Freeman provides the perfect voice for Alucard in the English version.

Basically, I enjoy a good English dub over staring at the bottom 2-inches of the screen while missing the visuals that anime should be known for. Too bad most English dubs are violent ear-rape.
