I'm not sure what people would classify this as, but it's good:

Psystep? Dubpsy? Chillbient? Dumb genres names...

It's got enough wub and drums to be grouped, but is acutally great music on it's own merit, without needing to be labelled.

I don't mind straight dubstep, but it's kinda a reductive genre... it's overblown minimalism serves its sound but it doesn't leave much room for growth in iterations, as is evident in it's most popular and mainstream avenues.

I'm not sure if there's a way to say this without sounding like a wanker, but I think dubstep has basically run it's course from the UK underground to viral internet popularity to Californian megastardom, refining the formula along the way. At this point it seems like the way forward is to hybridize aspects with other genres to synthesize something new. Then you'll have post-dubstep. /wank-talk
That song actually sounds far more like progressive breakbeat than anything -step. Save for a bit in the middle. And no, you're right, dubstep will eventually move onto some kind of substantial change, it's certainly less stagnant than the hardcore electronic genre has been lately. The newest innovation hardstyle has had was creating dubstyle... and there's still like, two tracks total that fit into that umbrella. And then that's it, trying to be different by slamming a more popular genre on top of itself for the shuffle portion of the song.

I very much dislike it. I prefer things that illicit some sort of emotional response in me. Dubstep tends to be repetitive and too drum-and-bass heavy. I really dislike the whole concept of a "bass drop", as well; it's not fluid. It's startling and disturbing when it just suddenly starts playing deep sounds. The I don't like the aggressiveness of Dubstep either. It sounds very angry to me, but I like my music to sound either energetically upbeat, vaguely melancholy, nostalgic, wistful or otherwise thought-provoking.

To me Dubstep is just more meaningless noise.

I like it, but bad dub-step actually makes me ill. It just instantly gives me a headache and eventually will give me a stomach ache.

But overall I like it a lot.

I didn't know what dub step was. Then someone pointed out that a song I was listening to was dub step, and I was like well I really like this song, so I thought I found a new genre. Turns out, just like everything else, I like some but not all. :)

The problem I have with Dubstep is how most dubstep all sounds the same once all you can hear is the dubbing and not the original music.

In the past I've heard some good dubstep, but didn't know what it was. It was definitely because of the bass drop, which when done right is pretty awesome, but since trying to actually find some dubstep songs I keep finding that the bass drop keeps making a meh song just boring. Going through this thread, there's definitely a lot of meh songs. And of course, there's a lot of plain crappy dubstep out there.

But there's definitely a few I liked, especially Sleep - Echelon (Balloon Party). And Lindsey Stirling - she's an amazing lil pixie.

Gotta laugh at the guys appearing in this thread to do nothing but belittle electronic music in a passive-aggressive manner, leaving us wondering if we should offer them something other than Skrillex to change their minds.........or just say 'fuck it', I'd be wasting my time yelling into the vacuum of space!!

Anyway, on topic. Yes, I love it. Even the wub wubs have their place as the current sub-genre that really doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. Filling the same sort of position that, in the mid 90's, was taken up with tracks like Dred Bass and Incredible, which were the fun and well known face of jungle.

What I don't like is the shady-brained blurring of the lines between DnB and dubstep. One is one, one is the other....simple!

Although DnB needs a little exposure as it's been struggling for a long time.

Dubsteb is the only kind of electronic, 'You can dance to it' music I can stand, and maybe even like. Most of the time when I hear the things that people play at parties(Though that happens rarely, leaving my cave is not something I like to do alot of)I want to, well, vomit. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part I want to smash the object playing said music with a sledgehammer.

Yea I like dubstep, but the good stuff stays underground where it belongs. Although, the newer dubstep has made things interesting. For instance, I rather like how some hardstyle artists are starting to blend the genres so it gives the dubstep parts more power (hardstyle is way harder and bass-y) and it makes songs have a little more variety.
Also, I don't know if it's a cause, effect, or whatever, but I'm excited that EDM is growing so much since the emergence of dubstep in the mainstream.

Where's the 'Don't really like or dislike but each to their own' option?

Captcha: Glazed donut
Is that an idea for a new Dubstep instrument...?

I hate any kind of electronic music with few exceptions. Dubstep is the worst kind of electronic music there is. The Borderlands trailer with the dubstep soundtrack almost turned me off Borderlands 2 entirely.
No sir, "Splittercore" is the worst genre of electronic music. Go on, try to listen to FIFTEEN SECONDS of it. You can't.
I have to thank you. I have always wanted to use the sentence "I stand corrected" and now you have finally given me the opportunity. It came for the price of ear rape, but I'll consider it a fair trade anyway. I guess from now on I will have to settle with dubstep being among the worst coming from the worst genre ever.

It depends on how it's used.

On it's own however, I'm just not a fan.

EDIT:

Eh, it's an interesting sound, but I would hesitate to actually call it "music".

This, however ...
Oh, yeah, also this. Because I can't really hate anything that Lindsey does. Plus her's is quite different to other dubstep I've heard, while most dubstep I've heard just sounds like a bunch of techno sounds randomly mashed up together, Lindsey's is quite soft and sounds nice and the violin just gives it a nice touch that's relaxing to listen to.

I still want to know how they built those ice castles because they're awesome.

If you are talking about the new mainstream style of Dubstep...Brostep, Fucking hell No!

If you are talking about the old London style of two-step Dubstep that was made five years ago, or more, then yes.

I love Burial, and the other old skool-dub like Digital Mystikz, Kode 9, and Benga.

It's a shame, that most people won't know about these, and will lump every single dubstep tune with all this new crap.

What can I say, I love my Dubstep pure, and without all these shitty annoying loud noises for the sake of just being loud.

America ruined what was once a great underground British genre.

It's okay I guess, not something I listen to all that often. But I have a few songs that I listen to from time to time.

Every dubstep song I've tried to listen too literally hurts my ears. Then the headaches start.

I'll stick with my 50's jazz and classical...
