So I finally played a really good portion of this game and i have to absolutely defend it.
Not because its good, but because it's definately not bad.
It isn't over the top action, but an enjoyable casual game that has kept me quite entertained.
At the same time, it would have been a brilliant game had it been released last generation.
For those that are disappointed and myself, I blame Gearbox for building up our expectations, and not doing enough to fulfil them. It is sadly quite evident that they didn't want to risk the time and money to turn this game into all it could have been to compete with the current generation of games.
After all, the Duke Nukem franchise was quite dormant; And Duke Nukem forever was a running gag. It's was already a huuuuge risk taking on the task of resurecting this game.
But after seeing the hype they caused once they announced that Duke lives, Gearbox should have went ahead and modified this 3DRealms' game to at least try and meet the ridiculous expectations of fans. Cos they have the technology and ability to do so now. Instead, they used 3dRealms' 90% complete game which is clearly outdated, polished it up and made it compatible with with current gen consoles, and prayed that the hype this reintroduction generated would be enough to sell it.
In my opinion, we are victims of unintelligent developement choices, not a bad game.
Might sound like I'm hating on Gearbox, but they still hold some of my respect for the initial risks they did take.
Peace.
