The GREATEST gaming fail? Hardly.
We already have several other shining examples of franchise-suicide and fail.
DNF will be, at worst, a mediocre or sub-par shooter in comparison to the likes of Daikatana.

Really, the only remarkable thing about the game was its long and largely redundant development cycle; the final product is really just "meh".

I don't get the whole "fail" thing. The game looks fairly average and I am definitely buying it. Sure it took 14 years to make a somewhat crappy game but there are definitely worse games out there. I'm getting it on Tuesday here in the US.

Gearbox; the developers of the games have postponed the games release for such a long amount of time
Uhh...... you DO know that 3D Realms were the main developers and Gearbox has only had the Duke Nukem franchise since September of last year, right?
They actually have had it for two years. It wasn't until that time last year that they said anything about it.

They had plenty of time to properly redesign the game for the times, and keep it to it's roots (being able to carry all weapons and switching to the one you want), but Gearbox failed. If other developers can make games all the time with a development time of a year and still make their games good with the proper play mechanics, Gearbox could have easily scrapped what they had received, started from scratch, and made Duke Nukem the way it was suppose to be. Being able to carry all the guns on a console controller is easy, Gearboxes excuse that it wouldn't work is bullshit. Duke Nukem 3D worked fine ported to the consoles with being able to carry all guns, DNF would have been fine too.

I don't care what people say about multiplayer, or that two weapon limits are part of this era in gaming, or that people new to the game won't be able to grasp not having a two weapon limit, a core part of Duke Nukem has always been carrying all the guns.
Yes, Gearbox managed to lose a huge chunk of my respect after they blamed consoles for the 2 gun limit. Only having 2 guns really doesn't bother me, but their uber-bullshit excuse for it can kiss my ass and go die in a damn ditch. They apparently they think console gamers are too fucking stupid to know how to press left and right on the D-Pad more than once.

I've already bought it.
It's extremely entertaining.

Some of its strongest weakpoints include its outdated graphics, weak storyline and dry humour.
I like dry humor...
Also: I find the graphics to be very good.

Storyline? Who needs storyline when you're the only thing standing between aliens and them kidnapping all women and turning them into breeding sacks?

Look, I'm not usually one to quote Yahtzee, but here's an old quote off his site from way back on the subject of DNF.

Yahtzee said:
At this point, if it doesn't want to be savagely kicked in the kidneys by the gaming media, 3D Realms is going to have to produce, not only the greatest game ever devised, but also the greatest work of art in the entire history of human endeavour. They're going to have to come up with a piece of software that can keep gamers occupied for centuries, pass the Turing test, and restore beloved dead pets to life. And if it doesn't fit every single one of these criteria, the car park of the 3D Realms building is going to play host to the biggest effigy burning in history.
This was in 2004 (so that's why it's about 3D Realms) but the point stands today. DNF was never, EVER going to live up to expectations. It's been far too long for that.

The game failed in 2 tasks:

1) The first task would be to capture new audience.
For a game to capture a new audience,it it is necessary to look and run good so someone who is not a fan of the series will give it a try,and people are hard to convince them get in a new franchise. DNF failed in doing that,by being bad in the technical department with bad graphics, bad frame rates etc. Nobody who isn't a fan of the series would try a game which is so bad in the technical department.

2) The second task would be to satisfy the fans of the series.
The game failed to do that because its gameplay isn't Duke enough.
Duke's character might have stayed the same, but gameplay is drastically different.
Instead of keeping Duke Nukem 3d's core features like secret areas and levels, complex maze like level design with multiple routes, variety of items to use etc,DNF rejected all these oldskool features and instead added health regeneration,a limit on the weapons you can carry, linear levels, and QTEs.

The result is that many fans of the original got disappointed by how much the experience and gameplay is changed, while people who could become fans of the franchise with this new game are staying away from it because it has bad technically.

I watched the demo online and the first thing I saw was Duke taking a piss in a toilet, then proceeding to throw shit like the brainless monkey he is. If this is all that the game has to offer, then screw this thing. While games like Halo or Cod are so mainstream it stands out, at least those games have a story and are entertaining to play.
